Anybody been hunting or scouting around Junction? Are any deer coming to the feeders, or are they still feeding on acorns?

I was down there 3 weeks ago and did not see but a couple of deer, daoy or night. We went this past weekend and saw a fair number of deer and 6-8 bucks. Feeders are starting to get some use, but I think it is just for a change of pace from acorns and native weeds and the habit of running to a feeder when it goes off.

I hunt 11 miles north of Menard on Hwy 83. I was just out there this past weekend and there are no acorns on any of our trees, this is 1000 acre lease. The deer are coming to the feeders good.

I have a place between Sonora and Junction. Three weeks ago I checked the two cameras and had over 2000 pictures. We will be there this weekend to shoot a few does and maybe an axis deer or two. I will download a few pics on Sunday or Monday. Last time I was there, we saw an abundance of acorns but they were coming to the feeders.

I will be hunting for a black buck north of Junction on the 27th. My dad talked to his friend that owns the ranch and he had to add more cows on his place because the grass was waist high. We also got back from Rocksprings and we didn't see any deer on the side of the road until we got past Junction. Every time we have been down here we see deer all over the the road none this trip. To many acorns this year.

Yeah last time I was out there, grass was 6 ft tall and all you could see was the deers head as they jumped through the grass, also we really had a healthy looking crop of fawns. All that rain earlier sure kept my protien bill lower, but, i got too many oak trees to try and concentrate on.

You will have to just watch country until the acorns rot away. I hear there is a bumper crop of Axis deer this year in Junction. Well, they are always there, but I have been hearing that their numbers are way up. An axis is not a bad alternative.

This past summer, axis were more spread out because of the abundance of rainfall, usually during the drought, axis are running over us b/c we have a creek and eating all the protien, then after opening weekend, and the shooting starts, they leave and i get left with the protien bill.
