I put up my ground blind and brushed it in on March 5 in preparation for turkey season. I went back out to the lease this past weekend and stumbled across a spot I really like a lot better. Do you guys think it's too late to move my blind this weekend (Mar 12) with March 19 being opening day for Spring turkey season? Does it make that much difference in your opinion?

no problem at all, when you crall in the blind however, be looking for snakes, they like those pop ups.

Smiling Mallard, thanks for your input. I thought it would be OK but thought I would ask the experts. I don't creep around as well as I use to. Actually, I guess I creak around instead so I am kinda relegated to a blind. I like the way you think, westtex75, I think I just might pick up a cheaper blind and put it in the new location. I love options! Not saying in won't happen, MattinDallas, but we haven't seen a snake other than our cabin corn snake/designated mouse catcher but I will keep an eye out. Thanks guys for your responses.

You will be fine. The hunt I guided for the Stic auction last year, we placed the blind, got in it, and had a Tom down within 25 mins of setting it up.....

If you've got a spot where they want to be . . they'll be there even if you set it up that morning. They may look at it a little funny but they'll be there.

#1 reason to use a decoy so they'll be focused on it . . . not you.

Thanks for all the responses. I think this is a "place they want to be". It overlooks a small meadow adjacent to a draw that I know they use as a travel corridor.

That's the reason I use decoys as well, Littledog. Thx.

I have used pop-up blinds many times in the middle of wide open grain fields. Most times, they don't even pay attention to it. Once in a while they will shy away, but with decoys out, they usually come back closer.

Yeah, blinds for turkeys are very different than with deer. You can set up a blind out in the open, not brushed in, the day of a hunt and be fine. You couldn't pull that off with deer. Of course you still have to be as silent as possible, etc. Move it daily during the turkey season if you need to. Won't bother them.

This is a worthless post because I don't have pictures (although I do have witnesses). I took Westtex75's tongue and cheek advice literally and just bought a small blind for the new spot. A group of 5 gobblers came in at 12:20 opening day the largest one is now in my freezer. Thanks all for the advice/reassurance.

Congrats buddy and I dont doubt you for a minute. . . with or without a pic. Yes, they really seem quite oblivious to pop-ups early in the season but keep in mind, four birds just got an education!
(Sometimes i think you could be wearing a santa suit and still kill 'em. Then there's all the other times. LOL)

Get back out there and punch the rest of your tags!

they truly are the dumbest birds...I was 15 and saw my grandfather snatch one right around the decoy using a feather fan. He had read that the Indians used the feathers and back then we always called with our hen call....he hid behind the decoy and a fresh cedar branch and waved the fan all around and they just attacked him and he came up with a gobbler in his hands. He got spurred but what a tale he had. I was the caller, between fits of laughter. 30 minutes early,15 minutes late and you will always eat.

I went in Saturday and took a blind and set it up about 20 yards from the decoys. This was at 5pm and we had 4 toms and 2 hens coming in around 6:30 the same night. Never put a blind there before so it won't bother them at all.
