I am looking for a male lab pup for a client--prefer gun dog stock don't need a litany of championship breeding

Puppy update: I believe my pup may have a learning disability. Crate training is STILL not going well. This week was terrible. I miss sleep.

if the crying is bothering you, you could take him out of the crate and let him snuggle up with you. This will stop the crying.

Also, keep a bunch of small rawhide chews available and sleep naked.

No, if/when I've gone, he goes outside and right back to the crate. Last night, tried moving the crate to the bedroom with us so he could see we were all sleeping. No good. Got super pissed off, hauled him and the crate to the garage, covered it with a blanket, shut all the doors between the garage and the bedroom, and never heard another peep. Tonight, going to try his crate in it's orignial place with the blanket over...see if it helps.

You'll be fine and so will the dog. Penny whined in her crate until she was like 32 weeks old.

it'll all be over soon.

Can we see a pic of this crate?

Snowball loves her crate and has since day 1.

It's just your normal plastic crate. Plenty large. Door in front. Holes in sides and back.

I had an old man tell me to use a small crate, I keep the crate in the house 3 days (to let pup out at night) then moved it to garage and been there ever sense. The small crate keeps them from using the restroom, pups dont wanna lay in their own mess. He also told me to stay away from large crates because the pup can move around to much. My pup gets in and lays down.

Worked like a champ

That's good, we are crate training Abbi right now our new 8 week old yellow lab and she has been really good. She whines a little bit in the morning when she here's me stirring because I'm usually the first up and she needs to go potty. She sleeps in her kennel next to my son's bed and I guess just hearing him breathing and rolling around in the bed, keeps her satisfied.
I can't say that for our previous lab Miley, you put her in a crate and you would have thought you were killing her the first few weeks. We got her in the summer so I let my teenage son deal with it....

Yeah, I think he's finally got it and is old enough to "hold it" until morning. He's been solid this week. He's doing well with "come" and "sit". We're going to start on more this week.

UPDATE!!!! He's quiet during the night and coming along fairly well. I took him and my other child to the duck lease today. He's not too sure about the whole swimming thing, but he got wet. He followed Remi (RGC's dog) after a bumper and tumbled into the "deep end". It was kinda funny, but I think it scared him. Anyway, Spanky brought me a bumper and Zeke retrieved that thing right off in shallow water. It was a fun day. Zeke (dog) and Dylan (son) are still asleep. I wish we had more weekends during the week!!! LOL
