Wood or synthetic depending upon weather conditions.

Right now my favorite deer rifle is the Ruger M77 MKII in .243 that I got for my wife last year. After putting a scope on it,
sighting it in, and discovering what a tack driver it is with 100gr loads, I have kind of stolen it from her.

I like stainless with synthetic stocks, I prefer Hogue stocks and tend to rig them out with Butler creek alaska slings that have shell holders and scope them with Leupold

Ultimate 3 gun combo for texas deer hunting

1. Winchester 30-30
2. Ruger 77 MkII stainless .270win with Leupold Vari-xIII 3.5-10x40
3. Remington stainless sendero in .300wby Leupold VXIII 4.5-14x40

That covers east texas timber to uvalde senderos

I don't hunt out of a stand so maybe my requirements are a little different. I use a Hogue synthetic stock cause it's gonna get some abuse. I have a short rifle so it's easy to maneuver through the brush/woods. I have good glass on it (Leupold VX-L 4.5-14LRX56) because I never know if my shot will be 30 yards or 400 yards. I have a sling but it stays in my daypack unless I'm dragging or packing a deer out. Having a rifle hanging on your shoulder is one sure way to waste an opportunity while still hunting.

I have several that I really like, some that get hunted with on occasion and others that have only been to the range so far.

Favorite for inside 300 yards 7mm-08 Remington 788 with a 2-7 Kahles on it. This one has a Maple stock Blued

Longer Range Custom 700 in 22-243 shooting 75gr Siroccos, 4-16 Bushnell 4200 painted camo with synthetic stock

Haven't hunted with it yet but the Blued wood stocked Cooper will get hunted with this year, wearing a 2.5-15 Swaro

Gun that is always around and handy, Marlin 1894 in 357 mag. Stainless with Laminate stock. If a deer is inside 100 yards I am as comfortable with this gun as any I own, to close the deal.

Slings like the synthetic ones that are comfortable on my shoulder.

I have a mix of synthetic and wood stock rifles. It doesnt really matter to me what I use, I like them all. Not a fan of the AR type rifles tho. I drag them all out in the field rain or shine, clean it up right and it doesnt matter.

I have many rifles but the only ones I seem to take out are identical Browning A-Bolts. Both have a composite stock and stainless barrel...

All of the wood stock rifles I have pretty much stay in the safe or go to the range for fun occasionally. I hate to impart too much character on them in the woods...UB

All my rifles are customs or semi customs except for one, Remington LSS .280. All SS in a grey laminated stock. I had it pillar bedded and trigger job. Other than that it is stock and a heck of a shooter with my reloads 140gr Accubonds. All my other rifles have McMillan stocks, custom barrels either Shilen or Broughton. Guns in past had Burris , Nikon or Leupy's. Been changing over to Zeiss Conquest 4.5-14's. Reaaly good scopes.

Old wood guns up to 300s Nothing better than smell of cleaning gun after a go at birds on hooved game in an a camp tent or old cabin. Only failures have been with old scopes after weather changes. Synthetic/ stainless people are missing out.

I like the wood, and blued. A few scratches, maybe a ding or two. Leupold on top, in 270 or 30-06.
Also, Marlin 336 30-30, same as the 270 and 30-06.
And the smell of Hoppes when I open the case!

6.5 SWEDISH MAUSER! composite stocks on all my guns, wood looks better but always getting scratched up or gets dinged going in and out of safe.

You and I were eye to eye until it came to the shell-holder on the stock. I HATE those things on rifles. I dunno' why, but I do. I much prefer a leather box on my belt.

My rifle is ss/boat paddle stock. Very ugly but has the best safety I have seen, been accurized, and is low recoil. It is a Ruger MKII in 260 rem. If I remember to use good follow thru it hits whatever I aim at.

I have had wood/blue but did not enjoy them after I learned that you need to keep them looking pristine. I wish I had not picked up that tidbit on these forums.

One of the best things I have learned on these forums is handloading.
