Ok, so this was the absolute most memorable spring hunt ever. The old man and I were able to take four mature toms on our place in London Tx. I was able to take my first turkey with my bow to date as well as one with my new shotgun. My Dad found out quick that his 2 3/4 he was shooting out of his 1100 did not have the reach he needed so he borrowed the Benelli and knocked down a double on Monday morning.

I personally saw 24 red heads (all ages) and he saw around a dozen. The birds are not breeding yet or responding to calls very well. We were successful by hunting where we thought the hens would go to feed. Most of the birds we saw were in bachelor groups of two to six toms.

We ended up with one turkey having 1.25" spurs. I consider that one the trophy of the weekend but the bow kill was absolutely incredible. The beards on the birds went 10.5,9.5,9.25. and 8.5".

Another plus to the adventure was that I was able to call my birds in with a call my Dad built me (upside down in the picture).

All I have to say is WOW!!! we really got lucky this year. Our place is finally holding the birds now that we have been on intense protein for the last four years.

I hope all of you guys have similar luck this year.

I'm super excited about the bow kill. I've been bow hunting almost exclusively for the past five years and I have passed on a lot of out of range shots or got busted when i have drawn back. that's why i hunted from my tree stand this time. I might just go try my luck at LBJ grasslands with my one tag I have left. Or I might just take my buddy who is getting into hunting and guide him on my place. I really don't need the meat now because I ended up with all four in my freezer. Either way I don't think I will be able to top this hunt ever.

Sharing it with my Dad was the best part.
