I was hunting on some family land about 15 minute outside of Seagraves and saw alot of deer, but no big ones. I did go into the Beers and Deers taxidermy right outside of town and they had some GIANTS that had been killed that week. One of them scored over 200", a couple were in the 190"s, few 180"s and a few 170"s. Didn't get any pictures of them though. I think they said they were gonna put pictures on the m&wwildlifestudo.com website.

Talked to the TPWL biologist that covers that area. There where some monsters taken in '08 and '09, but a big drop off this season. Those ranches got pounded pretty hard the past several years and it's starting to show.

Big money did the talking. Greed killed them off and now they will never recover unless they close the season again for awhile or make it a draw hunt, which I think should be done in Andrews, Gaines, and Yoakum counties.

Landowners control the resource there, so they are partly to blame. But like posted it is greed at this point. It hard to say no nowdays in today's economy to turn down the kind of money they are getting. It will take years to recover from the harvest that has taken place, if it can. AR's for Mule Deer? bangI can see it coming now hammer

I agree with you but if you cut the abiliy down it may help both... Issue 1 tag per 55oo acres..just a example. It would push the price up just do to availabilty...higher price and more land owners listen

Landowner can still regulate the deer being killed per ranch if they want to without regulations. Gonna take regs. at this point since they have shown so far they can't regulate the harvest. I am guessing most hunts are being done by outfitters right now and the landowner is out of the loop so to speak.

That would be my guess to but highly limit the number of hunts available and let the outfitters sink or swim, price is high enough quality will rise quickly because Hunters won't pay it unless the availability and quality are there.

Look what a quality Mule deer hunt is going for in Kansas verus TX

Exactly, but all the state has to do is control the number getting killed. The price will adjust itself.

Something has to be done to protect them since they take much longer to get to trophy quality than whitetails do. State restrictions or landowners coop doing it on their own.
