Long sleeves tucked in and buttoned up with jeans pulled over the top of 17" snake boots. Haven't found a tick on me yet this summer.

Good article.
SULPHUR does the trick. Only thing that has worked for me.

Do like the old ranchers do, wear a flea collar around each ankle over your boots.

Shoot straight and always carry a 7mm Remington Magnum.

I will second this method. It works great. Went out one weekend and counted 34 chigger bites. 2 weeks later when I went back out I used the sulfar sock and only got 2.

Who told you 42 degrees kills chiggers? I think you got some bad info. They got me on the nads the last weekend of the season last year, jan 3rd.

Use SAWYERS insect repellant cream and permetherine spray. Great stuff and is what the military uses.

use the high end deet sprays. they work just fine. i was using the deet and my brother was using sulpher on a recent dove trip, and my brother got hammered by the little monsters.

Permethrine Pro is what I use when I go up into Arkansas. We don't have many redbugs and ticks here because of all the fireants.

Never used the "Sawyers". Gotta look into that. Thanks!

Where do you get the Sawyers or the high end deet?
The above post SWAMP:
Chiggers are affected by temperature. They are most active in afternoons, and when the ground temperature is between 77 and 86 degrees. Chiggers become completely inactive when substrate temperatures fall below 60 degrees; temperature below 42 degrees will kill the chigger species that bite us.

I used an entire bottle of OFF during every hunt...I dont think they gave a chit! Next time you leave your hunting spot..spray a little around the area! I was 20+ ft in the air though!

JDickey has it right. This is the best defense against insects. I found out the hard way when my 4 yr old came homw from the ranch and look like a grown man down yonder! I felt so bad for him.

SULPHUR has always did it for me. I put it into a sock and dust it on me. As far as the deer and hogs I have never had an issues with it.

Have not heard of SAWYER, but sulpher can be bought at any pharmacy. I bought some at WalMart. Worked great for Missouri ticks. I introduced it to my Boy Scout troop. Now it is on the list of things to pack when we go on trips or summer camp. Like many have said - put some in an old tube sock & powder down before going out. I keep mine in a ziplock bag in my backpack / fanny pack for use during the day.
