hello all,

Just a few questions, ive seen reports on here that opening weekend is going to be the best week but then ive heard the latter part of april into may is best,
Does the breeding vary around the state as to when the optimal time is to hunt?

Is there a consensus as to when the "turkey rut" takes place? i only have two weekends to hunt this season so i want to make the most of it

IT is always a good weekend, our birds start chasing the week before usually. We have so many that they are pretty easy to hunt. Last year around the second weekend of March I heard some gobble, reached in the truck, got my call and yelped three times. Within minutes I had two birds within 30 yards. I was discouraged and worried with two plus weeks to go before the season started. It did not matter, called birds up each day I went out. I think I called in 16 birds, 6 got shot, 4 by me, two by others and if they did not have a big enough beard they got a pass.

I have found over the last 7 or 8 years that the birds start moving around alot a couple weeks before the season opens,I guess they are out scoping out the action.
I know I'm pumped for opening day to get here, nothing like calling in a big gobbler.
