I need new tires for my 03 dodge 1500. Right now I'm running 315 70 17 mastercraft AT but with gas heading for 4 dollars a gallon I'm going down to 265 70 17. With going down in tire size I want a good MT. Been looking at the Rem mud brute. Anyone used them before or could give me some ideas on different tires. Thanks guys
James

If you are trying to save on fuel economy, don't switch from an AT to a MT even if the surface area is going down.

My work truck is a 2011 Chevy 1500 extended, with 285 70 17 Nitto Trails. I get 12.5MPG. TERRIBLE

My last truck was a 2008 Chevy 1500 crew cab with 295 70 17 Nitto AT, I got 15MPG. Bigger truck, slightly bigger tires, better mileage.

I've driven 150,000+ miles through almost everything imaginable, and have only been stuck twice with those AT. And they are quiet.

These new Trails look awesome, but they are probably louder than the MT's.

If you are stuck on MT, The kevlar Goodyears have been good in the past.

I'm getting around 12 on the highway. I talked to the guy at the tire store and he said the ones I'm looking would give me 3 to 4 mpg. The ones o have one there are very aggressive for a AT.

How much tread do you have on your 315 70 17? If you want to sell them when you get new let me know. I am in need of new tires.

I've got BFG ATs on The Beast and I never have a problem. They run smooth on the highway handle the mud and snow well and don't wear out like some of the cheaper tires I have run before.

I had a set of Pro Comp MTs that didn't make it 25k before they were out of tread. My BFG's last more than twice that

Look at the Cooper AT tires or the Hankook Dynapros.

A nice aggressive tread. Expensive though

I have the Toyo's M/T, 35x12.5x20 on a Dodge Ram 1500 4x4
Pros: Long lasting, Easy to balance, don't wobble at high speeds. Very Good on Steet, trail, Decent on mud, and sand. Heavy duty side walls. Very quite for a m/t
Cons: Very heavy tire, poor gas milage.

I just bought a set of the Hankook Dynapros MT in a 265-70-16 for 820.00 for the set and the I paid 60.00 to have them mounted and balanced. They made my 97 F-250 crew 4x4 ride like a cadillac I'm really impressed with them so far and they look real nice too. Best part is they are 10 ply so time will tell on the miles they get.

Just bought a set of Nitto Trail Grapplers in 35/12.5/20. Don't know how they perform since I just bought them yesterday and pit 5 miles on them, however, in those 5 miles I have noticed they are louder then my previous Toyo MT's. These new tires start humming at 45mph and really sing at 70mph. As far as tread life, I'm hoping for another 41,000 miles.

if your looking for something pratical, i'd go with somethign like the BGG ATs or maybethe GY Duratrac. while it's not a super offroad tire, it will still be more than suffcient to get you through most basic offroad situations. not trying to solicit or anything but i own a offroad parts shop, so if you'd like a quote or something feel free to hit me up and i'll see what i can do.

You may want to give these new tires a try.....

Here is another article on these new tires, they look pretty good and offer a 50,000 mile warranty, wish they would provide the cost....

I'm running Dick Cepek Mud Country is 36x15.5x18 on my F-250 and still get about 16-17 mpg. they are quiet for a mud, ride great and perform great in the mud and anything else I get into. I had the nitto AT's before and hated them for offroad, great on the road though.
