That rancher and farmers, want ever pig in dead but want to charge 200-400 a pig. I love to shoot them, but if my land was getting ruined you better bet your sweet @$$ I would have whoever in the hell wanted to kill them there. This not a rant, just a question.

Give it some time they will be paying you 200-400 a hog to kill them.
Anyone can own a fancy gun but can you shoot it ?

I guess you have to be a rancher or farmer to understand.

I would have whoever in the hell wanted to kill them there. No you wouldn't. You used to be able to just walk up to a ranch or farm house and get permission to hunt deer, predators, javelinas, hogs, whatever. Times have changed. Today, virtually every rancher and farmer has had at least one bad experience with some yahoo doing something stupid and/or unsafe on their land. A lot of ranchers and farmers are just barely getting by today too. I don't begrudge anyone making a buck. You can choose whether it is a good deal or not. I would love to go hunting for free too! I guess I just get a burr under my saddle with all of these "Why can't I hunt for free on your land" and "That hunt costs too much. Why should I pay to help them out" threads. they gripe about the hogs but DO NOT GET ON THEIR LAND, to kill one of them Correct, that is called trespassing. A friend of mine caught some poachers/trespassers running dogs on his ranch for hogs at night last week.

Maybe I read this wrong but I didn't think he was complaining about not being able to hunt for free. I think he is simply asking why landowners whine about hog problems and expect to charge $200 - $400 per hog to fix their problem.

So why pay a doctor or lawyer to fix your problem?

I NEVER once said to let anyone hunt for free i simply ask why so much, you can get a day deer lease for less.as far as who ever wanted to come shoot them i WOULD have ANYONE that i knew there.

So why pay a doctor or lawyer to fix your problem? How can you even compair that. If you go to a doctor there is something wrong,if you have pigs you complain about them. i guess your one of the few that calls a plumer to fix you and they pay you.

Sure I complain about them, but I've let lots of people hunt them on my property and never charged a dime.

From a land owner perspective it's more the liabillity of some idiot hurting themself, damage to livestock, fences ect... One dumba@$$ falls in a armadillo hole and breaks his leg and then here come the parasitic lawyers..

I got a hog infestation, I do trap sometimes and have friends come out and hunt, but there is always some inexperienced hunter who shoots a few times a year that will accidentally shoot a cow or get hurt, the liability is just too much nowadays. you got guys shooting magnums and wsms and ultra mags that are flinchin when they pull the trigger....dont want them around me.

yeah waivers and leases, but what rancher would want to bother with so many? you would have to have one for every hunter.

I think alot of it is greed not liabilty. They do have waviers that can be signed. So do you have land? Like i said b4, it isn't free. I know the farmers in the area have had the helicopter out several times in the last few weeks. $300 an hour plus milage, but they are getting anywhere from 50-100-150 a day. I have friends out when i have a hog problem, but i know and trust them. Don't charge a dime. But if somebody wants to hunt pigs, why shouldn't the landowner get some compensation? I mean, they did buy the land after all. it is a lot cheaper to pay them a couple of hundred dollars, than it is to go out and buy land. I guarantee it!

I have waivers, and i have everybody that comes onto the property sign one. It's not much to keep up with. But again its just my friends. I don't really want people that i don't know coming out here. Cause they might get in the habit of coming when i'm not here, and that dog won't hunt.

It does surprise me to. I don't expect to hunt for free, but at 50 and up per pig that is nuts. At some point the cost of the damage to land and food for cattle is not worth what you get for a hog. I don't think they should allow just anyone with a gun on their land to hunt. That would be just asking for trouble. However, to ask for those prices per hog is just asking for trouble in a different way from the pigs/hogs getting out of control. JMHO.
If I'm not hunting something I must be dead.

I guess my question should have been. why has the price of a pig hunt went up so much?,you would think that landowners you drop their prices some to try to get rid of them Because people are willing to pay it. Simple as that. We recently had 8 guys in from Nebraska paying that kind of money to hunt hogs. I have met dang few knowledgable farmers and ranchers that would turn down that kind of money to help get rid of a pest. Why would I or anyone else let someone on my property, free of charge, to shoot something that is causing me a problem, when those folks are willing and happy to pay for that opportunity????? People from all over America are ready and willing to come to Texas to hunt hogs and pay for it, am I the only person that does not see anything wrong with that, I doubt it.
