Not sure just what you are asking but if you have dirt, you have hogs!!

If your on a large ranch with other large ranches around you its usually pretty good. If theres a lot of smaller places around (usually less than 1000 acres) chances are its over hunted and very limited numbers of deer with hogs coming and going.

It's not how you fall, It's how you get up.

Rhodes 520 is spot on. I have hunted on family property for 15+ years. If all neighboring properties would get on board with us the population and quality would be much better. Although we have SLOWLY seen the population grow over the last several years. There are just to many small tracts with people that have mentality of "if I dont shoot it the neighbors will". Heck in January I went to hutchins to drop off a doe I harvested and noticed a button buck that was no bigger than my lab. The hunter had tagged it as a doe. What does that tell you?

We have had a family place in Callahan county since the late 70's. The hunting has gotten so much better over the last 10 years. We saw deer early in the season but everything seemed to go nocturnal after Thanksgiving. I think the rut was on when gun season started this past year. We are still seeing good deer on our game cameras at night.

I think was kinda a weird year for hunting with all of the warmer weather, a bumper crop of acorns and plenty of browse food left well into the season.

At the end of the 09-10 season, we were still seeing good bucks at the end of the season.

Here is a deer that I got three years ago. My personal best:

Here is a buck my BIL got two seasons ago.

Here is my daughters first buck killed this past season.

I have hunted in Callahan county the past 11 seasons. I agree that the pressure can be way to high. In the 11 seasons out there my wife and I have killed three bucks that we mounted.

Killed opening morning in 2006.

Killed opening weekend last season.

Killed first weekend of December in 2009.

I did miss one with my bow on thanksgiving day last year that was a wall hanger. I think that the numbers are there but deer are taken way to young.
