I need some input from the brain trust here. I know of a lease that is in the aforementioned area that is available. I'm wanting to have another place to hunt for bow season and possible take the wife to go and shoot the trophy buck for that paid spot. The place is 6000 acres and is looking for 20 paid spots. The question that I have is, Is 20 trophy bucks too many to shoot off of 6000 acres for that area ? I know its going to depend upon the place. Theres plenty of cover and has not been over hunted in the past. I'm just looking for a general consensus answer.

Let me know what ya'll think. Thanks

thats 300 acres per allowed trophy buck. should be ok for that area. it all depends on the management practices.

It has been my experience that not everyone on the lease is going to shoot a trophy,I say go for it,sutton and schleicher are high deer density areas, home of quality deer also for edwards plateau region.

Life is too short, as is. Don't chance it.

If it comes out to 300 acres per hunter. Then you figure out their is a deer every 15-20 acres. A deer every 15 acres is 20 deer, and a deer every 20 acres is 15 total deer in your 300 acres. So, 6,000 acres and a deer every 20 acres comes out to 300 deer. Do you think their is 20 mature deer out of 300 total deer? If it hasnt been over harvested in the past I think you should be alright, are their axis on this property as well, if thats the case then you dont have as many whitetail as you should and your numbers woudl be out of wack. Good luck.

There are a few axis, blackbuck and fallow deer on the place. Talking to the guy that has been the lease manager the last 5 years, the deer count they get every year is 1 per every 10 acres. They try to take only 4.5 yr old deer and older with min of 16" spread plus culls. Only reason this ranch is available is because the lease manager lost his corporate backing. If possible, he and the other guys who have hunted it would like to stay on. From what I've seen and know of the place 20 people would be fine. I just wanted some other opinions from people who hunt and know that area. Thanks guys an keep your opinions coming.

You should be ok as long as all 20 hunters don't try and fill their tags every season. There isn't much browse to eat right now and we really need some rain. That seems to be the average amount of hunters for our area.

Our neighbors lease like that and it gets crowded sometimes.
