Pattern it to see, most 410s will pattern well enough inside 20 or 25 yards for turkey. For my Contender with a 410 10 inch barrel 20 yards is my max range and prefer 15.

It can be done....when my nephew was 9 I took him on his first spring turkey hunt...all he felt comfortable with was his single shot 410....we took it out and patterned it...good out to 20 yds with heavy load # 4's. he killed a longbeard at 18 steps. your mileage may vary.

I have a Mossberg that will shot 3" shells, it is full choke, I shoot 3" remington express longrange #6, my 8 year old can shoot a crow out of a tree @ about 25-30 yards.
again your mileage may vary.

Out to 25 yrds should be no problem. Pattern some 7.5 shot. At that range it will have plenty of killing power, and should provide a denser pattern with less holes than say 6's or 4's.

410 is fine for turkey.I have an old revelation bolt action 410 that was my great grand pa's that i have used for turkey for years.I use 3" 2 shot and try to get the bird to 25 yards and they always fall.I have taken one at 30 yards.Just like the rest of them ,started eatin dirt.GOOD LUCK

I was thinking of letting my son use my 410 this year for turkey as well. Figured I can get him within 15-20 yards of a jake at least.
Went shoot it just to make sure. I let him practice with 2 1/2" shells and will put in 3" when its time to hit a turkey. The 2 1/2" shells patterned like crap at 15 yards, but the 3" shells were excellent to 20 yards, decent at 25, and horrible at 30.
It was amazing how much difference 5 yards makes, but every shot at 25 yards would have been a dead turkey, and several would have gotten away at 30. We'll aim for 20 yards.
I also patterned 6 shot only, as that was the only loads I could find here in town.
