I drove this morning into Smithville (just outside of Bastrop) to deliver a transmission that I sold.
Here is the list of dead animals I saw on the side of the road: 1. Horse (side of I-10 just outside of Brookshire-west bound lanes) Somebody is hurting after that collision, and not just the horse! 2. Bob-cat 3. 4 deer (across a 20 mile stretch) 4. One HUGE hog! Either he was bloated from the sun, or that was the biggest feral hog I've ever seen. 5. Gray Fox 6. Many raccoons, & skunks along the way.
This was a 2 hour trip each way. Saw everything on the way out, and only saw the feral hog on the way back.
Anybody else seen anything interesting on a road trip in Texas lately??
A hog is nothing more than a bullet receptacle.

Two words!.....Full Moon!
Thursday at 12:45 PM #33 Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

Made a trip to forth worth today on 377. Saw coons, yotes and skunks. Seem to be an unusual amount of dead animals. Guess the full moon has them looking for love in all the wrong places.
You can't fix stupid but you can numb it with a 2x4

My mom told me that when I was little I used to count the roadkill on every trip we made.

A horse?? I wonder if it was part of one of the large trailrides headed this way for our rodeo coming up.
The early bird might get the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.

Rural roads are like demolition derby's with skunk breeding in high gear and the full moon the last few nights have made for lots of deer and varmints roaming the roads. It's hard to go more than a few miles without getting a skunky smell around my parts.

Headed to Houston to the weekend from Lubbock, and saw what several dead skunks down Highway 6. Saw a few deer and other animals but the skunks were really bad, at least one every few miles.

I saw the same horse on Sunday on my way back from Katy to Austin. The driver *had* to know that he hit something......wow.

I counted at least 20 skunks between my home and the ranch the other day. I even saw a skunk almost get tagged after our meet and greet the other night on old Granbury road. A skunk met its maker in the road across from my neighbor last night. Sure am glad I haven't caught any of those in the snares. The fowl oder from the yotes is bad enough.
If you shoot a young deer because a neighbor will shoot it, you are that neighbor.

We should be right in the middle of coyote breeding season but I have not heard them around my place lately. Usually mid Feb. to March I hear them every night. One year a female in heat and my dog talked back and worth for quite a while. It is also skunk season. Last deer season I saw about 6 dead foxes between Lampasas and Evant. I think the moon was full but don't remember for sure.

On the dead horse I am wondering if it might have been a case of someone pulling over and off loading the horse and shooting it in the head? I think we would have seen a story about a car or truck hitting the horse as it would have killed the driver instantly.....

Me and a buddy of mine happened upon a horse-Mazda Miata collision once just north of Huntsville. The horse had fallen on top of the car at the point of impact and completely crushed the roof in. I would suspect whoever hit that one on I-10 was probably not going any further west.
