Not sure if this would go here or in off topic.

I am taking a trip with my girlfriend (both 30) towards the beginning of june and have the choices wittled down to 3 places: New York, Chicago, and Washington D.C. Just wanted some input on any of these places, which would you go to, and what would u see while there. Would also like recammendations on places to eat.

NY - I have been to ny on a day trip buth there is more I would like to see. My girlfriend went when she was like 12, so doesn't remember much about it.

D.C. - I have spent about half a day there and saw most of the main monuments. I would like to see arlington and the main reason would be to spend a couple days at the Smithsonian.

Chicago - Would like to see the field museam and aquarium. plus a game at wrigley. I hear there is some amazing food there.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts, advice, and recammendations.

DC would be my first choice because I have never been.
Lived north of Chicago for 6 months but would go back. Didn't get to do much vacation type activities.
No desire to go to New York at this time.

Of the 3, New York would be my pick with DC being second.

Lots of cool stuff to see/do in NYC. I am a history nut, so there was a ton of stuff for me to do while my wife shopped. Ellis Island is a cool place to tour. Lots of Museums that I enjoyed. The Met, Museum of Natural History, and the Cloisters were my favorite. If you are a foodie, NYC is the place to go.

DC is also really cool with a lot of history. Arlington National Cemetery is a sight to behold. You can't leave that place without being choked up. You will need at least 3 days just to view the different Smithsonian buildings. Lots of Civil War battlefields within a short drive. Overall, the city isn't very impressive and many parts are run down, but I would like to go back someday.

Chicago is ok. It also has good food and my wife enjoys shopping there. Just not as much history there. Wished we could have caught a game at Wrigley while I was there.

DC would be my pick

Been to all three & lived in Chicago. I would have to choose D.C. There's much more to see there than the other two, and there are some super eating establishments.

Also, you are in the backyard of Baltimore, and if you have time, Philly is only 120 miles up the road with Atlantic City being only about 35 miles from Philly. Not to mention Anapolis and the Chesapeake Bay being in D.C.'s backyard.

Now I'm garnering up a taste for blue crab cakes & a cold beer.

Been to all of them, DC is a much easier vacation so I would recommend it. There is just way too much to do in NYC and you could get burnout just trying to decide. I love Chicago, it is not the easiest place to get around. We have been to Asia and Europe, but the best vacation we ever had was our tenth wedding annivesary in Alberta Canada, in the Canadian rockies. I bet you guys can do that for the same price or less than NYC or DC. I highly recommend it.

I like Chicago. A lot more laid back. I swear I drove in a circle in DC for an hour looking for the road to my hotel. Spent 30 minutes trying to park in Georgetown. I like ribs, steak, and beer so Chicago for me.

Agree with the posts on trip to DC. Take in the mall area (Smithsonian etc.), esp Air and Space and the Sackler. For dinner - go up to Adams Morgan and just walk around until one of the ethnic restaurants strikes your fancy. Try the Ethiopian ones - drink the honey wine and have the lamb. For another trip - go out to Annapolis and tour the downtown area on foot - Paca House and Garden, all the side streets, wear yourself out. Eat a nova lox and cream cheese bagel at Chick and Ruth's for lunch. Later - head a little northeast of town to Cantler's Riverside to eat Chesapeake Blue Crabs (hint - order your favorite beer to drink, and buy the cheap stuff to rinse your hands). Then - if time, by all means, head to Bal'mer - tour inner harbour and then cruise Lexington Market to find lunch. I lived in the Baltimore / DC area for 25 years - it still is sorta 'home' to me - but I wouldn't leave Texas for any reason or money.

Only at the end do you realize the power of the Dark Side.

Arlington is a "must-go." I would spend more time there if I ever went back. It will renew your faith in this country and the American soldier. I know that this sounds rediculous, but stay away from the Mexican food - the single worst meal I have ever eaten. We took a few bites, paid the tab, and walked down the street and paid for another lunch.

I've been to every large (500.000+ pop.) in the U.S. and if it were me, I'd stay the he ll out of every one of them unless you're a fan of rude people and traffic.

I've been wanting to go to DC for a while. I've been to NYC twice and, even though it's fun, that fun only lasts for a while. After three days during my last trip, the people started to get on my nerves and the filth got overwhelming.

But, thats just me.

Wimberly Texas was a great place for vacation; zip linning, cannoeing, and horse back riding; the kids had a great time. The Wimberly Inn is clean, cost effective, with hot tub and wooded lot which was great for dogs.
