its good to shoot in the wind it teaches real world limitations. i missed a crow last week at less than 80 yards with a 10 mph crosswind. I mil-dot one minute over. FAIL... but barely missed.

I checked out the VarmintAL.com website and it's pretty interesting on the 17HMR's capabilities. Very informative on bullet selection, performance, conditions, etc., etc. I really enjoy the 17 and if the wind is 10ish or less, I always take it with me.

I agree with whoever said 5mph+.
I think one of the most difficult shots I ever made was with my 17hmr. I hit a pill bottle at 100 yards with a 20mph cross wind. It was at least a 7" Kentucky windage hold. Took me a few shots to get it there, but I made it. The hardest part was that the wind was gusting so it was difficult to know where it was hitting each time. The hold was different for each shot.
You want to improve your shooting, go shoot a rimfire in the wind.
