I bought the Stevens 200 in .270 caliber last year in March and I love the rifle. Shoots great and its been a great hunting gun for me. Also, every time I go hunting everyone always wants to hold it saying its a "great rifle" and it is the "perfect weight".

A buddy had one in 308,ugly but shot MOA all day long. The thought just occurred to me;ever since I sold my pattern-shooting Mini-14 I've been wanting another 223 but in bolt.Does the 200 come in 223? Nope...not the Stevens 200 that are sold at Academy. I bought my Stevens .223 at Academy. It was X-mas 2009 but I definetly bought it at Academy. They may no longer carry it. Go ask a sales associate and have him look up and see if any other stores have one. Back to the gun, I love my .223 and it shoots under an inch. Oh okay. I was going by what the sales associate told me over the phone.

its a 179.00 bucks and some complain about a plastic stock thats found on every other maker of guns using plastic stocks. sigh.... On that note I will let you know, got one today for a backup slash loaner gun in .270, just mounted a tasco on it. I bought one (Stevens 200) also this morning in the .270 caliber. I was trying to find the Stevens 200 in the 7mm-08 caliber, but Academy stated they sold out in the 7mm-08 caliber. theres a few 7-08's left at some stores but I opted out of it because of the 1-11 twist in the 7 Rats! I called six different Academys in Houston trying to find a 7mm-08 caliber, and they all claimed that they sold out and only carrying the .270 caliber. Oh well, I will make do with the .270 caliber.

I have the 223 and the 7mm08 and both shoot great but the 223 shines as far as accuracy goes. Both were purchased at academy. Still recomend spending the extra $50 and get a better trigger tho.

Hoytman, what trigger is $50? That might not be a bad option for a replacement.

you can polish up your trigger and it will amaze you. i did mine. it took longer to put it all back together than to polish up the contact points. i used a very fine diamond knife sharpener on mine. a dremel would work even better, but i do not own one. or take it to a gunsmith and have them fo it for you. you really do not have to change these triggers out.

If you really want a 7-08, it's just a barrel swap away although there's nothing wrong with a .270 either. I got one in 7-08 that I swapped a 22-250 barrel on, one in .270 that is a utility/spare rifle and another .270 for later custom build. The .270 shoots fairly well and would shoot better with upgraded trigger and stock. As a short range hunting rig it's more than adequate. Total cost was about $350 with Bushnell Elite 3200 on top of it, can't really beat that combo for value.

I have one in 223, good shooter, the stock sucks. It's my truck gun. For the $$ and what I use it for I'm happy with it.

check out www.gunsamerica.com search for stevens 200, they got all calibers and just have it shipped to a FFL holder for a transfer fee, cheaper than the gas driving all around looking for one.

Much cheaper to call the store for availability and pick one for $179 + tax. All the ones on that site will be over $300 after shipping and fees. If you don't like the caliber, you can get a different caliber barrel starting from $40.

My final price that I paid was in the same price range as yours after I bought the scope, rings and mounts.
