2nd year turkey hunting. Last year called in just hens. We had birds gobbling at us but we could never get them to cross the street across from us. Any suggestions??
Much appreciated

Could you go wide around behind them and try to call them back to you from another direction that would not require them to cross the street/fence?
Sometimes they will cross things like fences, roads, creeks, etc...but often they won't. Removing barriers like that reduces the odds of them not coming all the way in.
If you meant that they are someones elses property and wont cross over to you...well you are out of luck as far as my suggestion above. But, you can always find more birds somewhere else!

I have found that while callin, if a Tom is sounding off and can tell he has moved closer but hangs up due to a fence, creek, ect......, I just shut up. Something about giving them the silent treatment drives then bonkers. Get as close to the road or fence as you can, call and get them all worked up, then just go silent. I give'em a call after about 20 min to just let them know I'm still there. It may take up to 45 min to an hr., but has always worked for me.

Another option that you have if you are hunting with a companion is have one gun stay in place, and the other gun begin to back away from the Tom and call from a further back location. If the Tom hears the hen leaving, he may be willing to leave his strut zone and cross the road. I have also followed travelling birds that would gobble but not come into the calls by trying to get ahead of them and have and setting up in front of them and calling them to me. It's a little like Last of the Mohicans since you have to cover a lot of ground fast, but I have gotton Tom's on public land that way, the last day of the season...

I hit one last year with my truck crossing the highway. Mabey it was your bird and that's why he didn't come over.

Last season i called a bird over a high fence. He flew over without hesitation and had inch and a quarter spurs. I think if you catch a bird in the right mood he will do just about anything to get with a hen.

i called one in and had him fly over the brazos river in palo pinto county... it was only about 50yds wide at the spot but i was sitting down just talking back to him not really thinking he would come across... mostly just killing time enjoying the awesome spring day when all of sudden that sucker came across and flew like 5ft right over my head! hands down one of the most awesome things i have ever witnessed in the woods!
