Bobcats do in fact have a melanistic phase. Most spotted cats do. Cougars do not. I personally don't consider wildlife biology "mumbo jumbo".
Bobs right boys , bobcats can be black! The pics are there what else is there to prove!!

I do cosider it mumbo jumbo when they tell me it cant be when in fact thousands have seen with there own eyes to be true . This was told to me on many occasions By biologists so now that there is proof its not bobcats anymore its just lions . LOL As I said MUMBO JUMBO . Bobcats are also smarter and harder to call in than coyotes . Some more MUMBO JUMBO Bob .

I think most species of animals can have the melanistic trait. You see it in as examples: deer, coyotes, squirrels, bobcats, etc. and there are many more of those animals in numbers than mountain lions so I can see where numbers would dictate the odds of seeing one in their favor in those species. Don't think you can rule it out just not highly probable we will live long enough to see it if and when it does happen.

Just because the pics are old that does'nt make the bobcat any less black. Does'nt matter what year it was a black cat is a black cat. I have no opinions on black panthers but there are pics of black bobcats.

What the heck is "indian corn"??? this is going to get good black cats and indian corn in the same thread... now we just need to add in a little AR discussion and maybe put it all in a high fence and then we will have a good (passionate) discussion going

True....BUT...what is the BEST caliber to shoot the black panther trying to kill a 12 3/4 inch buck that scores 165 B&C eatin Indian Corn on a 87 acre high fence ranch?? Now THAT is what I want to know...
