looking to possibly book a texas pronghorn antelope hunt. Is it possible to get a good hunt for around 1200.00 or so?

probably looking at 2k+ unless you wait till right before season when outfitters are trying to fill empty spots and cancellations.. there are some on here every year

I would think 1200 is on the low side.

Norm is about 2000 and up. 1,200 can be had but far and few between. Usually with no guide ect

Closer to the season you can find hunts for $800-$1,200 I plan on hunting pronghorn this year, but I'm not even going to consider looking for a hunt until right before the season.

This is gonna sound a little biased because I am an outfitter and we do around 40 antelope hunts per year in New Mexico and Texas combined, but here's the deal...... You can go get an antelope permit in Texas from some farmer or rancher that doesn't know better for $800.00 or even less! But the problem is when you buy "Mr. Jones's" permit for his 350 acres and there's not an antelope on the place, there's nothing you can do about it. Antelope don't come to a feeder. And if there are a few on the place, the chances of him having a good shooter are even less...... When you go hunting with someone like myself, you get to drive around on a few hundred thousand acres and look at several hundred antelope every day and pick out the one you want. We help you put a stalk on him, you shoot him, and we put the appropriate tag on the antelope. If you're ever gonna use an outfitter for a big game hunt in Texas, antelope is the hunt you want to use the outfitter on. I just think that you get what you pay for. Our Texas hunts are $2000.00 and there're booked up for this year. We have some spots available in New Mexico though!!!!

I booked an Antelope Hunt through Sage Brush for this year and it was $2350 for a three day hunt. I looked around, even looked out of state. But when you factor in costs like gas, food, extra time away from work it just made sense to stay in Texas and use an outfitter.

I had contacted High Rack and Chad Hassell and I must say that even though I didn't use either of them they both replied so fast I was amazed. I have a feeling those two gentleman will put out a good hunt. Jeremy at Sagebrush has been great so far as well. Looking forward to this hunt.

theres lots of good hunting on mr jones or any other farmer that dont know no better( need to watch how you talk about the guys you make a living off of ). i happen to have hunted with one for the past 15 yrs and we always run 100% . having 100,000's of ac is nice i guess but having the only wheat field around is priceless

all the prices I quoted above where from outfitters who where trying to sell their last permits for the year. I'm not booking a hunt unless its on a good ranch and I also know I can find some great deals closer to the season.

And SageBrush is a great outfitter to use for pronghorn, but they to also offered tx pronghorn hunts for around $1,500 as the season got closer this past year.

I am pretty sure he wasnt bashing the farmers or Mr. Jones's etc...If you have a small place that you have had success on Antelope on for that many years, you are very fortunate. There are also plenty of ranch hands up there that you could go to and say you were interested in an antelope permit. Most can and will probably get ya one for the 750-1000 dollar price range but, I will go out on a limb and say that if those guys havent figured the Antelope game out yet, there is probably a reason...They either have no Antelope or the few they do have are small. I would much rather pay an outfitter a little more who has all the access and knows what places have the big goats. If you only objective is to kill an antelope, the 750 dollar mr. jones hunt may be for you. But, figure in 3 nights motel, eating, and the fuel you'll spend driving around and you will have another 600-700 dollars in there pretty easy. If I were gonna spend that much, I would think the additional 500-750 would be worth one the guarantee I would kill one and two, the good possibility of it making B&C or being real close. Someone who has never looked at an antelope in the field has no idea on what to look for when trying to pick a trophy.

budreau, I had no intention of putting anybody down or suggesting anything negative about any landowner or anybody else. I was just offering up a point of view for the guy that started this post from someone with alot of experience hunting antelope. In the last eight years, my clients have taken well over 125 antelope in Texas alone. Somewhere between 14 and 18 of those have gross scored over 80 inches. I'd say that makes me qualified to have an opinion as do you. Fire_medic and I may not be as smart as you but when someone puts a question out there on a public forum referencing something that we happen to know a little about, naturally we are going to put in our "two cents". Sorry if my take on the deal is different than yours.

The Non-resident license in New Mexico is just under $300.00 if I'm not mistaken. Our New Mexico hunts include all the maels and lodging on a three day hunt. The price in $2000.00 plus the license.

Whby05, if you have time to give me a shout, I'd be glad to give you the pros and cons and try to give you some idea of what to expect on a good antelope hunt in Texas or New Mexico.
