This is my first post, but I have enjoyed the wealth of information on this board for a while.
I'm going to be new to hunting around the Albany area, and just wanted to get some feedback from y'all as to what I can expect. We are about 15 miles northwest of Albany. I'm already looking forward to next year.
Thanks.

even though you been a member for a while. I have hunted the Nail Ranch once. Lots of deer and some pretty nice deer also. Chance at a 160+ type deer is there on the right ranch. Lots and lots and lots of hogs. The deer really were fun to hunt there and they rattled really well.

I live in Albany, great hunting for deer, turkey, pigs, varmints. You always have a great chance at a big deer here.Do you ahve a lease or are you moving here?

I used to hunt on the Lambshead in the 80's - around Albany is some incredible deer country. You'll see lots of deer and a chance at a true trophy. The genetics are certainly there. Good luck.

I hunted out there for several years as well. Shackleford County is probably the most highly thought of area within 3 hours of DFW, at least by my friends. I know many people that hunt that area and I've seen some real monsters out there.

hunt 12 miles south of albany. good deer, tons of pigs, turkey if you have water and good dove hunting over water holes if its dry come dove season. the beehive is a great steakhouse in town and you can get pretty much anything you'd need for the camp in town. they have killed some monsters 10 miles west of albany over the past couple of years. been on the same lease out there since 2004 and really enjoy the area.

wow, those are all some nice deer. I appreciate the feedback. I had heard it was a great area, but I wanted to get some confirmation from people out there.

I hunt about 16 miles NW of Albany on the Clear Fork. Expect a 140+ buck EVERY year and a 150+ every 3 years or so. Twice in my 19 years there, a 164 gross buck has been taken on our pasture. With the advent of MLD rules, year-round protein, and heavy doe culling, the region is getting better. Unfortunately, it's not getting cheaper. In additon to deer, you will find yourself in turkey, hog, dove, and predator heaven!

haven't hunted Albany but did help set up a ranch there a few years back feeders, blinds etc. was supposed to get a hunt out of all the work I put in but never panned out. Did see alot of deer in the process with some awesome bucks in velvet. lots of hogs and turkeys too. probrably one of the finest looking ranches I have ever stepped foot on and minutes from town. Good luck and I believe you will be very happy hunting there
