im saving for a kimber 1911...taking everything into account...especially price..vote on what you like out of the 6 that i have narrowed it down to...obviously i only want the ultra series...i put some info about each on a table...#1 will be top left and then the one to the right of it #2...the first one on the second row #4... outside of night sights i dont know what the difference is between the ultra carry II and the ultra TLE II??? probably will get one of the first 3 for $ reasons...i cant wait to own of these...

I voted for the SS because I am sucker for stainless guns. My Kimber is a stainless edition.
Just FYI, while I don't know exactly what every notation means, but models with the "TLE" and "Ultra" usually denotes detailing work from the factory. For example it will include checkering of the foward part of the grip, upgraded sights, larger beaver tail, etc.
The good thing about Kimber is that all models come standard with a match grade barrel (still not 100% sure what that means, but I know it's a good thing) and a excellent trigger system. I have the stripped down Stainless II and it shoots as well as my buddy's Custom TLE II. BUt I'll admit his is nicer than mine with all the additional details.
That's a long way of saying you can't go wrong.
I'm a dude who likes long barrels!

Ultra CDP II, carried one for about 4 years now. Just one of the things I like about it, is how easy it is to clean. Mine has been extremely reliable and accurate as well. I also have a Custom CDP II (5")like it as well too.

I'd look at an STI before a Kimber. However, my Kimber Pro Raptor II is sweet. Not a fan of 3" barrel 1911's.

I voted Super Carry because it's the newest and least common of the bunch you listed.

A rriend and I bought Kimbers the same day several years ago. We both got the pro size. I got a KPE which has 30 LPI checkering on the front and back of the grip fame, he got the CDP which has 20LPI checkering. Both shoot well but he sold his after a short time and I do not blame him, the 20LPI checkering actually gets tough on the hand after shooting a few rounds.

I'll try to say my peace about the Kimbers. The TLR means it has a rail. I believe that is the only difference in the two models.
Night sights are a real big thing for me. Also Kimbers are known for wearing very poorly which would encourage me to go towards stainless. Also if you plan to carry it in warmer weather and will sweat around it I've heard about rust issues.
Basically what you pay for on the upper level models is checkering, finish and night sights.
The eclipse I would stray away from as it is a steel lower making it much heavier.
The CDP is supposed to be more rounded to help with carry issues. And the Super carry adds a very small bobtail.
Its all about wants/needs and what fits you the best. Also you will quikcly realize how no one has any of the pistols in stock.

I have heard the same thing but have noticed no wear or rust issues after 4 years of carrying in Texas with my CDP's. Interesting though.

I've had two tactical pros both I got used. I have no idea of the history but one the finish was bad and one the finish seems great. Its was the blue kim pro finish so I be more hesitant if you plan to carry often....
However I am picking up a blued Kimber tomorrow so I hope to be eating my words.

The top end price range of that list is in the same range as a Baer Thunder Ranch Special, and definitely within the range of a used TRS. Just another option to consider.

I have the Kimber ultra carry II. The 3" length does make it harder to get tight groupings. I always take my cc test with my colt commander since I have a lower target score with my ultra carry. Having said that if you are going to carry a 45 the 3" is the way to go for CC.

I like the grips on the last two, I just don't get the whole two tone look. Is there a purpose or does somebody just think that looks cool?

TLE = Tactical Law Enforcement. TLE/R = Tacticle Law Enforcement Rail
I have had 4 Kimbers thru the years. I have had the custom II, it was a good shooter, but I wanted a smaller one. I then got a CDP II Pro. It was also a good pistol. I now own the TLE/R and it is the most accurate one of them all. It is my night stand gun equiped with a light and laser grips. I also have the CDP Ultra as my ccw. The last 2 mentioned in my post are my favorite of the ones I have owned.
My vote went to the CDP Ultra.

I have two Kimbers, a stainless ultra carry 45 and s stainless target II 45. Both shoot great but the stainless target II is more accurate because of the longer barrel I have night sights on my stainless ultra carry which you will definitely want. Both pistols shoot great. You won't go wrong with a stainless ultra carry with night sights.
