If anybody is looking to buy a cheap cart to fix up I have a 93 Club Car with windshield, charger and cover for sale. I use it 3-4 times a week at golf course-pm if interested.

How important is 4x4 on these golf carts, would a little winch pull it out of most stuff...Also could it handle foam filled (solid rubber) tires? They get pretty heavy. With skid plates and those tires couldn't you get over or around most obstacles?

Kind of depends on where you're going with it, but these things in 2WD will go most places that you'll need to go. They're nimble enough to go around most anything that you don't want to go through. The one thing I would caution on them is that the gas ones don't like going through deep water because the belt gets wet and slips. That's really about it. I don't have a winch on mine, but you could definitely get out of anything with one, or with just a simple come-a-long.

My tires aren't foam filled but they have slime in them and they mesquites haven't flattened them yet.

So can I get just a normal, run-of-the-mill electric or gas golf cart, like it just came off the course and fix it up....I.E. the bigger tires, a lift, etc. and it will ne okay. The rear end can handle it? The motor/engine can handle it? It won't be the same as putting 35" tires on a little 4 cylinder pick-up will it?

It'll run just fine. The only thing you'll have to do after the lift and bigger tires is adjust the brakes. No biggie.

Here's mine I built. 1978 Club Car. Couldn't ask for anything better on our lease, and we've got some VERY ROUGH terrain. As long as you have electricity, there's nothing that can go wrong, almost literally. All you have is motor, batteries, 5 solenoids, and a controller box. 32 years old and still running very strong. I do have to replace the batteries every 5-6 years. Last time it was around $300.

just got my cart finished and can't wait to get it to the lease this weekend.

I recently bought an EZ go for $5K, new. Loaded down with everything I wanted, upgraded motor & chip, oversized tires etc.
I have a quad and rhino, the ezgo is the [censored]! I can go anywhere on my property in complete silence. All my buddies got sucked into the federal tax rebate scam and bought stealths & bad boys, they got screwed! Only draw back is no 4x4, but haven't needed it yet. I've owned gas carts in the past for golf, and they always had issues, back firing & popping etc. The sweet think about batteries is for @$500 I can have a brand new power supple every 3-4 years. This think will pull a lot fo weight, but damn its heavy! Quiet and we love it.

I did my own g.c. Have less than $2500 in the whole thing.

Runs like a champ. If you're considering an older elec. cart then you really need to look closely at the battery rack. The batt. acid will eat the rack up.

This is going to be my hunting rig. I was going to sell it and get a Ranger but decided to keep it instead. Mainly because it is PAID for and second I think with the accessories I want it will work just fine. This is an EZ-GO Express that seats 6 but the back seat flips down to make a platform. It is gas operated and will go forever on a 6 gal tank. It has 23" tires and has plenty of lift. It will have camo seat covers and several rifle holders and I might even get the full enclosure in camo if I can find one.

You can build a pretty bad boy cart for $3000.00 lifted, lights, passenger bench that flips out to carry the kill, 10" or 12" wheels....easy.

if you looking for a hunting rig for hog hunting that can haul your gear people and dogs i recomend a crew ranger or mule or maybe even a crew go cart( heavy duty of course). we use a ranger and it works perfect for getting around.

How do the 2wd elec. do in the sand?

It does great but you need a lift kit so the belly ain't draggin' in the sand and slowing you down. I drive mine in the deep, dry sand near the dunes and do just fine.
