Let's get right to it - I bought a used Weatherby Vanguard 270 WSM. It shot a pretty good group in spite of having the worst trigger I've ever felt. I've read a lot of horror stories about this trigger and I'll probably end up putting an after-market special in it. But I also noticed there is no place you can get a dollar bill under the barrel (black plastic/composite stock). I've never took a dremel to plastic before; do I take out enough material to float the barrel or does composite need a couple of pressure points? It seems this could be a real grouper with some work. Looking for advise.

I have had a good results leaving a little pressure spot at the end of the forearm... but every gun is different.
learn something new everyday and you will have never wasted a day.

i had to remove a lot of material to get it to float. it really needs to be bedded to float it properly - i need to have mine bedded if i keep this stock around longer. i changed my trigger to the timney - do it and never look back.

When I read your title, I already knew which of my guns had the worst trigger. And I was going to comment that it was my Vanguard in 22-250.

I thought as much, thanks for the confirmation. It seems such a shame because I know this gun could be a real hole puncher (if you can afford the ammo). When the first three rounds grouped less than 7/8" in spite of that horrible trigger I just knew I had to do something to make it tighten up, even if just a couple of 8ths. I'll start putting a little fine grit dremel to it and see what happens - at least take off those tiny burrs in the barrel groove.
I'm shooting some hand loads from a friend - 130 gr. boat-tails that MV at 3280fps. Maybe slowing that down to around 3000 would help too. Anybody noticed much difference in hot and cold loads?

TK - google howa trigger and i believe there is a way to clean up the factory to less than 3 lbs. mine was ok - it broke around 3.5lbs but i tried to lower it and couldn't. so when i went to get it bake at 3.5, i never could. got pzzd off and ordered the timney. the stocks are actually really good for a plastic factory.

I did google Weatherby triggers and that's where I found all the horror stories. Most everybody just does what you did and what I'll probably do, drop in a Timney. I agree, the stock isn't bad, but those little beads are going anyway. If it gets tighter, great. If it doesn't, no harm done.
