Just wondering if anyone can help me with info on what kind of bullets i can use on deer? What has anyone used and what brand and grains??? Any info would be very helpful as i just purchased one due to the fact i can no longer use a big caliber due to a shoulder injury! Thanks!

Although I am not a big fan of the 22-250 for deer hunting, I do understand your situation.

If Remington still makes it, I would go with the 60gr Nosler Partition. I know they still loaded it as of 3 years ago because I bought some of them for my 22-250.

I dont think there is a better deer load out there in that caliber in my opinion.

DONT USE ANY OF THE BALLISTIC TIPS IN THAT CALIBER ON DEER!! THEY ARE MADE TO FRAGMENT VERY QUICKLY ON IMPACT!!!!

I have killed many deer and hogs with my 22-250. If you hand load or know someone that does, load up some Sierra 55gr Game Kings. These bullets are extremely accurate and stay together real, real well upon impact. There is not an animal in the lower 48 that I'd be afraid to take out with mine. It is a tack driver and anyone that's hunted long enough and taken lots of game will tell you that it aint the size of the gun, it's where the bullet is put!!!

I've even killed deer with 55 grain Nosler ballistic tips, although I wouldn't reccomend it. You most likely will not get an exit wound = no blood trail whatsoever although I never had one go more then 60 yards or so.

My mother has killed over 50 deer with a .222 and never lost an animal! She never takes a shot unless she's dead on the animal and puts the bullet where it needs to go. The only difference between that .222 or a .223 and a 22-250 is velocity. I'll take the velocity any day.

The post above says Nosler partitions. Very, very good bullet. Too good IMO as the bullet will punch right through without expanding much unless it hits very solid bone. The Sierra bullet will expand while still holding together and will do significantly more destruction of the vital area when put through the rib cage.

Hope this helps

I will second JCB on the noslers. I shoot them in a 223, you can get factory loaded 60 gr from federal, and they shoot real well. I have shot many deer and hogs with them as has my brother his girlfriend and my little cousin. They get my vote every time, and are one of the most renowned hunting bullets in the world.

i liked the 55 grain seirra gamekings.

as of now,i use 55 grain remmy soft points but only shoot for the neck. don't like to take body shots with the .22-250 but most are super accurate, neck shots should't be a problem

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

I've killed many deer and a handful of hog's with a 220 swift. I've used 55gr nosler ballistic tips, the trophy bonded bear claw's from federal(53gr I think) and 60gr partitions. All but one deer dropped in it's tracks, my nephew killed about a 300# boar last year, shoulder shot at about 40 yards w/the partitions and the hog didn't take another step. The one deer that did run off only ran about 20 yards and crashed. I use to order all of mine thru www.cpcartridge.com, they have been extremely slow to deliver on my last few orders though so I may have to look elsewhere although I think I have a lifetime stock anyway. Next time I will try the gamekings. As far as accuracy the 55gr ballistic tips are absolute tack drivers in my 220. I have a mark V 257 weatherby mag that is extremely accurate and my 220 is right there with it.

If you reload, SPEER make a 70 grain soft point. They work well on deer.

I don't think that Federal loads the 55 gr Trophy Bonded Bear Claw anymore. I used it for years because they shot to the same hole as the varmint loads I used. That said, I'd use the 60 grain Partitions. They will hold together and are designed to open quickly and create a decent sized wound channel. I've used nothing else in my 7-08 for the last 10 years and have never had any kind of problem with them. They always exit and leave a good blood trail.

Good Luck and Good Hunting.

I've killed several at 100 yards with the 55 grain BT. Shot behind the shoulder and the fartherst ran about 30 yards before falling over. All shots were pass-thrus....

Very big fan of the 53 grain Barnes TSX in the 22-250. Three hogs and a doe last year, none took more then two steps. I shot one hog that was 225lb and 150 yards away. Shot her in the head and the bullet exited her chest. The doe was also a complete pass though and vital area was jelly. I get my from www.cpcartridge.com. I use to use the Sierra Game king from PMC in both my 22-250 and 243. I had two of them blow up on rib bones, so I switched to the Barnes TSX. The Sierra are very accuarate they just don't hold up like I think they should.

I don't see the Barnes TSX doing a complete pass through on a 225lb hog from 150 yards away. I have shot a pass through at 75 yards on a 100lb hog with the Barnes TSX. Anything over that range I have not been impressed with but I guess anything is possible.
