Just an FYI: those so called "rifled" slugs actually do not put a spin on the slug. Their purpose is to provide some squeeze room when the slug travels through the choke part of the barrel. It is commonly thought by many that these "rifling" grooves are to spin the slug. They do make for a good snug fit when traveling through the choke which will certainly improve accuracy. If they were not there, the slug would have to be made slightly smaller than the choke diameter to pass through it. The smooth slug would in effect, bounce down the barrel. This would be a miniscule amount, but enough to adversely affect accuracy. This would be like the old smoothbore muskets shooting round lead balls.

Also, some are under the impression that rifled slug barrels can only be used with sabot slugs. Not so. It is perfectly fine to use lead non-sabot slugs in a rifled barrel. They work just fine. However, do not use sabot slugs in a smoothbore barrel and no buckshot in a rifled barrel.

I would really like to check out one of those Burris Speed Beads! It seems like the sight plane would be pretty close to the bore, which might solve some of the cheek weld issues the most folks have with shotguns that have a non monte carlo stock. I pulled an Aimpoint clone off my slug gun because it was just too high for my taste. The Eotech seems to work much better for me. Of course they're a lot more expensive..

That CZ looks interesting but I wonder how parts availability is?

Took the words right out of my mouth. 30/30 or 35rem is hard to beat!

I agree and mine for the purpose is a lever action Marlin 375, but I believe the posters question was directed at shotguns to take advantage of the shotgun only public hunting areas.

I use an 1187 with open sights and can consistently put rifled slugs in a ten inch pattern at 50yds. In heavy cover most of the shots are less than 40yds, anyway. I always put a slug in the chamber and two 00 buckshot to follow. Never had a hog run more than fifteen yards after feeling shot buckshot.
