Could someone explain exact carry laws here in Texas..I do NOT have a concealed handgun license, and prob won't get one for a while... I have a glock 17....I know I can have it in the truck, out of sight, but can it be loaded? chambered? or do I have to have the clip out.....
Since I am just now getting into pistols, I want to make sure I am 100% legal.. I've heard a few diff answers from people that prob don't know what they are talking about.

My advice would be too look up some actual legal paperwork or look for a website that has posted and interpreted it into laymans terms.
This place is a great place for friendly advice, but often people qoute opinions or incorrect info.....Example- You can ship guns person to person in the state of Texas as long as
1. The people shipping and receiving the gun are both of legal age
2. both reside permanently in the state of Texas
3. you have to use a common career (fedex/ups)
4. the person recieving the gun has no laws preventing them from owning it(convicted felon, restraining order ECT>
but if you were to ask a question about shipping a gun, you would get 15 different opinions on the matter until some one finally posted the verbage for the ACTUAL LAW!
If you guys on the forum have links to verbage or websights please help me out here.
FYI when you get your CHL they will tell you at LENGTH what you can and cant do with your handgun.

Look up House Bill 1815. Probably abbreviated HB 1815. I might have the numbers wrong, but don't think so. Google texas hb 1815 Basically says you can't be a felon, can't be a gang banger or involved in a crime, must be concealed. NOTHING about not being loaded.

if a cop pulls you over it better be in plain sight because if they find it without knowing you had it it wont be good.

Let me tell you if I Pull u over and its in plain sight your gonna have a bad day. After I dig my 1911 out of your earhole, and pick you up off the ground your going to the pokey for Unlawful Carrying Of A Weapon! Carry it loaded, chambered, but carry it concealed in the glovebox, toolbox, under the seat, in the console, anywear in the vehicle but plainview. That being said your good to go as long as your not a convicted felon, convicted of Assault Family Violence, or committing any offense higher than a Class C offense (traffic offenses). If we ask if there is a weapon in the vehicle tell us, we may be weary of it but as long as your not a thug we aren't going to freak out on you because you got a weapon in the vehicle.

Goes without saying I'd tell the officer about my weapon, as I am no thug or convicted felon... Thanks for the info guys!
