Yep RIA are some phillipino made guns. If you want a USA made 1911 as I feel they should be then you have to dish out a ton of money! Pretty dissapointing if you ask me.

Watch your top knot.

I've got a Smith and Wesson 1911 PD that I really like in 45 ACP. It was between 700 and 800 bucks.

If you're talking about Rock Island Armory, they're made in the Phillipines (but on original USGI machinery, so I've heard)

Heard same thing...

I've been thinking about getting one of the new Remington .45's. I feel they are a great looking gun at a great price considering what .45 govt. style pistols go for.

x2 on saving for a Kimber. I have a Stainless Target II 45 and a Stainless Ultra Carry 45. Both shoot great and are very accurate with 0 malfunctions!

Try the new 1911 made by magnum research. They are made in minnesota. I got one not a couple of months ago and like it as much as my colt. It came in around 700.

GT is open to civilians. Some guns are restricted but clearly labeled and the guys at the counter can point any restricted items out.

Is the Para the only 1911 made here any more in this price range?? Its got some bad reviews and makes it hard for me to buy one. Do any of you know of any other 1911s in this price range??

If not Im thinking hard on a Smith M&P, at least they are made here, Im just leary of the 6.5 pound trigger pull. Maybe a Ruger also, shoot me some American made pistols to look at.

It is 100% American made: parts and all. The trigger is crisp, and as described in the article. Although there is a small amount of movement in the slide to frame fit, it is very well done for a $699 1911. The loaded chamber indicator is a cut in the hood simliar to S&W and others. This means it won't be acceptible in California in it's current form.

100% American made, good quality control, good trigger, $699 = winner!

The new Remington 1911 R1 pistol is a variant of the 1911A1 design. Remington has added a flared and lowered ejection port, beveled magazine well, loaded chamber indicator, high profile dovetailed single-dot front and two-dot rear sights, a crisp 3.5-5 lbs trigger and a match grade stainless steel barrel with barrel bushing.

The pistols will be manufactured at the Remington factory in Ilion, New York. Remington plans on shipping the pistols in June.

STI is a top notch facility, I've toured their shop and they put a lot of hand fitting and such into their guns. I didn't know they contracted out their lower priced guns. I have a Kimber Ultra Carry and its really accurate. You can't go wrong with a Kimber. If you buy used, you should be able to find something American made in your price range.

I have STI and a Kimber. Carry the Kimber and compete with the STI. BOTH are awesome guns...... Kimber PC II with crimson trace grips......

I would save for the Kimber but that is just my opinion!

Shhhhhhhh better to be quiet than remove all doubt..

I have a Springfield and a Remington Rand both are good shooting pistols. I carry the Springer and the Rem stays at the house for protection there. The Rem. probable has 2k rounds thru it and never a problem.
