Well, our place is MLD III, and season opens three weeks from yesterday, or 20 days from this morning.....not that I'm counting of course!

If we could just get some cooler weather to move on in, it would be nice!

Feeders have been running for about a month now, as they were all destroyed when we got 7+ feet of water in the pasture during the last flood.

September is the month we let the ranch rest, and no one goes down into the hunting areas. I'm planning on going up the Thursday before opening morning, and sleeping real good that night, because I'm sure I won't sleep well the night before.

I put five deer in the freezer last year, or was it six?? Anyway, we've still got meat left over, and I'm making vensison breakfast tacos for Sunday School today.

Yup, I'm rambling. My neck is swollen, and I've got this overwhelming urge to make a scrape in my living room, LOL, so I'll just come here as an outlet...

Are the rest of you ready?

Chucky

Yes, the counts are showing the deer have moved right back in. We have the Trinity River on three sides of what we call the "bottoms", and after all that rain in Dallas and the rest of the Trinity watershed, boy did the water come downriver.

Ever smelled rotted three week old / wet corn in a feeder barrel? Well, trust me, it doesn't smell bad at all compared to three week old rotted protein pellets infested with maggots! It was all I could do to keep from hurling.....

Maggots ??? You sure it wasn't meal worms ?? Great fish bait, and that corn would make good Hog bait !!!!!

Good to hear they are moving back in. I dont know if I could handle the nasty things! Bad enough (dont tell anyone) field dressing critters turns my belly a bit. I can gut a fish no problem, but warm blooded animals I have trouble with.

The biggest buck I have killed to date came fron Melvin. I got him right behind the place they call Twin Oaks. Twin Oaks is the local beer joint, or at least it used to be. At any rate, the deer hunting is real good in that area. The closer you get to the Ford Ranch the better it gets. The Jacoby's own a lot the land around there and are good people too.

Thank you! That is very exciting. I just got finished setting up one feeder this past weekend and I am going to set up the other 2 this weekend. I put a camera up so I will share if there is anything special to look at. This will be the first time hunting in that area. I usually hunt in Llano, Gillespie and Mason counties. Thanks for the encouragement. I am so excited!
