I believe that you have to have a special permit to hunt gators. You also have to attached to them before you can shoot them. My Dad shot one about 15 years ago with a friend. They used a rotten chicken suspended over that water with a shark hook in it to catch the gator first. Then they used a come along winch to pull it onto the bank. 3 shots later from the 30.06 and it was dead. I was 10 when he shot the gator. It was 16 feet total length and when it was strung up tail first I could stand in the jaws.

I gator hunt with girlfriends family. Very fun, but we have landowner permits. It is very fun and a hugh rush to pull on a line with a 10 foot gator on the other end. Not sure if you can hunt without the landowner permits.

I eat what I kill, but I don't always kill what I eat.
Girlfriend Wife: "Why am I here?"
Me: "So I do not have to open the gate!"

We always have land owner tags. Our numbers are finally starting to come back up after the hurricane. There are many people who sell gator hunts, but they can be somewhat pricy at times. In texas you have to catch them on a line. You can't use high caliber rifles and shoot them from a distance like they did on that show. You also can't hunt gators at night in Texas. If you are really interested shoot me a pm and I will get you in contact with someone who can take you out. We hunt out of Winnie, but have a lot of land around the coast as well.

My dad and I have been putting in for the gator hunt with the state of Texas for 15 years and like all other $10 entries we give to the state they just keep our money and say thanks. No hunt yet.

It sure seems like the odds should be better.
