Finally had the chance to shoot a hog.. I've been hog hunting 5 times or so since I got stationed here in SATX. Back in Eastern NC we don't have to many hogs running around. I have killed more deer than I can count but never any hogs there.

My friend took me to his lease somewhere around poteet, we got there around midnight. I was messing around with my bow trying to shoot some varmints when a herd of pigs hopped out about 100 yards away. I only brought my .300 Ultra Mag (overkill I know) but it was that or the 30-30 and the guy said hogs were huge there. Anyways I took a shot and dropped one, perfect heart shot, the herd took off running and I lead them one. I shot again and I hit another one, I thought I broke its back legs because it was dragging its rear end. So I shot again and hit a heart shot. When I started to clean the hogs, I realized the shot I took at it while running went right in his butt and stopped in the head..

My goal is to get them with my bow now. I had the bow in my hand but didnt want to shoot at a hog 100 yards away. It was a good time though.

I never realized how tuff the hogs were. My .300 ultra Mag with 180gr rounds didnt do as much damage as it does to NC whitetail deer.

Had 20 hogs come into my feeder, can only see a few in the pic, but they came back the next day at 7pm while i was sitting in stand.


I've gotten to where I can shoot a quarter at 15 yards with my bow, I hit this one in the neck/head at about 20-25 yard. I shot a lot of hogs and could never find them, so started taking head shots only .


hog never took a step, he dropped right in his tracks. The other hogs just looked at him, so I shot another one at 40 yards out. It was a quick shot, hit him in the front shoulder, it dropped but got up and ran and I never found him..

75 yards with a .300 Rum, running, little over kill but oh well. Blew its snout off, did a hack job trying to slit the throat while it was bucking around.
