i sure wish they would put a star by your name (or something like that) that can be carried over year after year to show you have completed the hunters safety coarse. with the technology that is out now, there should be no reason that some kind of id could be printed on the license for those who have completed the coarse. what are your thoughts?

That is an excellent idea, send that request to TP&W in Austin. If enough people do send in that request they may get the idea. I will send in a request for that info on the license.

They print your hunter education number on the license in some counties. It's on mine so I don't have to carry the card. They still aren't doing it across the bord but should start soon

Sounds like a good idea, but what purpose would it really serve? It might be a good program to start for those persons that were born on or after the Sept. 2, 71' start date, but what would they do about those of us that did not have to take the course?

I just checked my license, and it has my hunter education number printed on it. I guess I dont have to carry my worn out card anymore.

For some reason the Game Wardens that I have come in contact with have never asked for my hunter education card anyway.

I bought my license at Academy in Mesquite (Dallas County).

My hunter education number is on there too. Funny that I took it back in 1978 before I went to Colorado. I hope they did not confuse me with my son, who is a Jr.!!!

Mine isn't on my license, I have to carry that worn out(cant even read it) card around with me. And my game warden checks my card every time she checks me(I guess she is doing her job). And I have a friend that got his license at the same place as me and his has the number on it; so I dont know what the deal is.

My number was on there last year, this year it isn't, and I bought the license at the same place. The guy just told me to call TPWD and they would fix it so it appears again next year.

Guys, here is some information from a Hunter Education Instructor. I would not count on the HE number that is on your license. Some of the numbers are erroneous. I have had students come through my classes that have had a number on their licenses, but have never taken the class before. As an instructor, I have to have taken the course and Austin has all the information regarding that, but every year my license states that, HE is required. I have seen some people that have HE numbers on their licenses that do not match the HE number on their card.

FWIW, you are required by law to have your card on you along with your license. If a GW checks you and runs your license and finds that the number on your license is not a valid number, you could get a fine for not having proof of HE on your person.

Also for those of us who "don't need HE", if you hunt on some Federal land you DO NEED proof of HE no matter how old a heater you are. Think its a good idea.
