Since we ONLY hunt our own property, I don't have a dawg in the lake-naming fight. In fact I usually don't even read those threads. However, today's TPWD e-mail on Migratory Reports caused me to wonder ...

"North Zone Duck: Duck season ended Jan. 23 and hunters said the latest cold front and timely rains 10 days prior aided success. The region received as much as four inches of rain, which finally floated a good mast crop of acorns. Wood ducks remained solid throughout the season, and mallards improved in January, especially the last week of the season. Lots of divers were reported on Lake O’Pines, Caddo Lake, Toledo Bend, Sam Rayburn, Lake Fork and Cooper Lake. The Sulphur River and Lake Wright-Patman was hit-or-miss. The good news is the latest rains have provided an abundance of water to sustain ducks through the winter, or at least until they begin to trickle back north."

Why is it that nobody seems to get bent out of shape for that lake naming throughout the season? If the State feels that it's appropriate to let hunters know where the better action is, then why not similar info from other hunters?

An older inquisitive mind would like to know.

wink

Cappy ... At my side for thirteen years, in my heart forever.

Just my two cents, but I have NEVER seen that article and honestly wouldn't know where to look for it. I do however check THF frequently and see the abundance of naming lakes.

When I read that it makes me wish the season started two weeks earlier and ran two weeks later.

January is primetime around here.

So you believe everything the gov't agencys tell you Cappy? grin (j/k, bad joke I know)

Those reports (no disrespect to the people who write them, cough cough) are typically a week or two behind and outdated. Much like the fishing reports you see on the website or newspaper.

Being new to the duck hunting scene and having to eat a lot of crow from my buddies. I will have to say that I under estimated the sport but not the people who participate in it. No offense to anyone who participates but there is more whining in this section than all the others combined.
