And to add to my above post, we have 9 protein feeders on 1200 acres, low fence in Central Texas. All of them run empty in roughly a week. Do you have livestock or alot of hogs the get into the feeders? That is a little over 140,000 lbs of protein a year, sounds like alot to feed on 1200 acres... Not to mention is is almost 25K in cost a year. Numbers look correct to me if he is feeding around 200 deer on 1200 LF acres with more coming in from the neighbors. Density would be common for a lot of Central Texas.
Are idiots multiplying faster than normal people?

No, we have our feeders fenced off. We don't refill the feeders right away anymore... learned the hard way. But when we do put out more protein, it goes quick. We culled our heard out pretty good though so it shouldn't be quite as bad now.

We have fed antler max, record rack and some golden nugget stuff that my uncle gave us. The deer didnt seem to like the golden nugets, but love both the others and took very little time to pic up eating them.
We also plot, summer and fall. We plant millet mixed with iron and clay peas in the summer and oats and turnups durring the winter. We get the plots palnted every year, but they dont always grow, and it sucks to spend 200 bucks on seed and fertilizer and not have it come up, not to mention the labor and time.
you'll find your pissing in the wind if you don't have irrigation. we planted oats 5 years in a row, only had them come up 3 years. no way i'm spending the time and money to plant lab-lab and not have a guarentee

It's hard to say. We lease the place, and since we've been on it, it has gotten very over grazed. The range conditions worsen every year due to cattle. But we have noticed some better antler mass.

We have good luck with the summer plots, seem to get rain every year in the spring just about the right time to kick them off and they have done well. The oats have been hit or miss. This year they came up about six inches or so but the grazing mixed with no rain killed them off pretty quick. That is why we feed protein first and with leftover funds we plot.
It's hell eatin em live
