How often should the strings be changed on a bow? I have a hoyt xtech and have had it 3yrs with original string. Im a little worried about it and i am going elk hunting in about 10 days in N.M. Should i have it changed? I keep it waxed good and it dont look bad but im not a expert on bows.

Every 5,000 shots or 1 year. What ever comes first.

BTW I am a M & R Bowstring dealer.

Wes i bet i havent put no were near that many shots thru the bow, but if i need a string what do you need to know and do you ship if i need one? Also what would the cost be? I wish i was a little closer to you so i could get you to look at the bow.

I opened the case on my Hoyt 3D bow some years ago and the fastflight string had broken while it was in the case. I kept it waxed and inspected it often. When I took it to the Pro Shop for a new string, the guy told me that breaking in the case is fairly common.

To be on the safe side, I'd change it at some regular interval regardless of what it looks like. Sorry I don't know what that interval should be. I keep my recurve and longbow unstrung and don't shoot a compound any more.

Practice doesn’t make perfect.
Practice makes permanent.

I can ship to you. Strings are $30 and cables are $20. So you are looking at $50 plus tax and hipping. Just let me know. All I need to know is how long the string and cables are. That info should be on your bow.

does it look dried or is it cracking anywhere? has your draw length or any peep turn? any changes in performance? in extreme wear on the serving? if not DONT MESS WITH IT.

especially if your taking off for the mountains in 10 days. you'll have to break in the new string (100-150 shots on the conservative side). Even with winner choice. i bought some supposedly non-stretching or pre-stretched string and it still stretched.

I wouldnt mess with it. The odds of something happening are slim to none. If it does break though, i told you to change it.

i am leaving tomorrow for NM to chase some bear. the guy i am goin with is goin after elk. we will both be bow huntin.

What are some legit signs that your string may need to be replaced?
