Which 300 do you like? I am thinking of getting a new rig and not sure which way to go. RUM, WSM, WSSM? Are there other options. Really like it in the Sendero get-up, but am thinking that it may be too heavy to tromp around for Elk. Thanks for your feedback.

any of these 3 wby, wsm and good ole winchester mag

i really liked for old 300wsm a lot as ammo prices are better than the 300 wby. but i would get the wby if i was to go buy one today.

I have a wby and love it. That said i dont think there is a discernable performance dif between it and a win mag, i bought it because I like the wby calibers.

If I was going to buy a 300 mag and had no other incentive other than that I would go with 300 winmag hands down, most popular, probably some of the cheapest ammo and just a plain and simple good gun.

I've got a good ol' 300 Win Mag...in a Sendero too. Love it.

I also have a 300 Win Mag Sendero and love it. Check the Remington spec sheet, as far as weight it is only one pound more than a standard BDL or CDL. In the field the weight will not be that much extra.

The best 300 I ever had was a Ruger mark2 m77 all weather stainless in 300 win mag. I shot that thing forever and killed all kinds of stuff with it.

But if I was looking for a 300 that I could carry on long hunts I'd go with the Remington model 7 CDL in 300 WSM.

If you want one easy to carry and accurate as heck, look at the Tikka. But a .300 in a gun that light is going to punch you.

First off there is no such thing as a WSSM when speakin of the 300's. There may be some wild catter out there that made one but its not something you will ever see on store shelves.

As far as which 300 I would buy......I would go with the RUM or the regular old time tested 300 Win Mag.

Don't forget the tried and true 300 H&H. It will still get the job done.

If I were in the market for a .300,
1. H&H.
2. Win mag.
3. Weatherby mag.

I have used a 300 win mag for many years. If it wont do it, it dont need to be done.

300 win mag, in the sendero vssf is an awesome gun,, but is not a light weight. also browning A-bolt with a muzzle brake would be a great hunting rig. the weatherby's are expensive to feed off the shelf, and the wsm, well i really like them but not anymore than the winmag, the win mag has a slight leg up in ft per second, energy, and powder capacity over the wsm and handles larger grain bullets a lil better,, i have no real experience with the rums so i will have to reserve judgement.. good luck with your choice

Had a 300win in an A-Bolt stalker and it was a bit punchy.. Love the avalabilty of the ammo, and the price for belted mag ammo is only surpassed by 7remmag.. It has be a longrange standard for the US army shooting team for decades...

Had a browning A-bolt 300wsm with the boss system on it. The gun and the caliber were great. Wish I never would of sold the thing. The boss system made the gun kick like a standard 270

On a whim I bought a Savage 300 WSM with Accustock and Accutrigger. I was quite impressed with out of box accuracy and the felt recoil (at least to me) was less than my 30.06. A little more gun than what I want for Whitetails though.....but it's my money and I wanted one! banana

Good comparison article for short actions is in Sep 2010 Shooting Times. For what it's worth, in the article Dick Metcalf states "......the .300WSM outruns both the .300 RSAUM and the .300 Win.Mag at all barrel lenghts and bullet weights, with the single exception of the 180 grain .300 Win. Mag. from the 24 inch barrel." On the 180 grain his published data indicates a 35 fps difference in velocity & 81 ft-lbs energy. (Factory ammo, no handloads)

Of course if your just looking for brute strenght there's always the 300 Ultramag. rifle

Good luck - - - - this time it's YOUR $$$$$ cheers

I liked the results from Browning A-Bolt Medallion in 300 Win Mag so much that I bought another one last year for when my son wants to use one. The new one is Remington 700 BDL.

I have a .300wby thats a stainless sendero and I couldnt be happier its the only Remington I own and probably will be the only remington I own.

It will shoot clover leafs at 200yds all day long with just a glass bedded stock and jewell trigger

I have a Remington model 700 300 H&H and it's has done the job for me on whitetails & hogs. Factory ammo is a pain to find (Cabela's is the only one in DFW that I know of that carries 300H&H, but I use hand loads).

With the muzzle brake, the kick is about like a 243. I also had a Ruger model 77 trigger put on it w/ a 1 lb pull. I put a Zeiss 3x9x50 scope on it and I've outshot everyone that I've been up against that is shooting w/ a 9 power scope so far (it's a nail driver).

If you can put up w/ more expensive ammo & lack of availability of factory loads, I'd highly reccomend the 300H&H.
