Has anyone used it before? I hear its not good for deer only varmints. All I know is its some accurate stuff.

It's all about shot placement.

Will a .223 vmax 55grain kill a deer? Yes it will.

How confident of a shot are you with your rifle? If very and you can hit a Tennis Ball at 100 yards with it, then you will do well with it.

If you can only hit a pie plate at 100 yards, you better be a good tracker.

Many conversations about this same topic before. I have personally killed 40 plus with vmax and never had a problem. You are going to hear hunters that read whats on the label of the box, but never tried it chime in. It makes a mess of the insides on the animal.
It is not forgiving on poor shots and you will rarely have an exit wound. Give them a try and you will be hooked

V-MAX. All that needs to be said.

V-MAX is for VARMINTS, hence the "V".

Again, will it kill a deer, yes, if you hit it in the right place, but hell, so will a pellet out of a slingshot, or a GAMO air gun.

Deer are not varmints. Use the right bullet and the right caliber for the game you are hunting.

Like you said, the V-Max bullets are designed for varmits, but a Deer can be reliably killed with V-max bullets (223 55grain). Here is a question, have you ever shot a deer with a VMax? I know many that have and they all killed the deer DRT.

I hunt with another bullet people say you can't kill deer with.

A .308 A-Max 168 Grain Bullet. I've shot ton of deer with this bullet and killed everyone of them DRT. Even the Hornady reload book states you can use them for Light Skinned Game, but if you ask here, most people say not to use them. (I find the 30 cal entrance hole and the 3" exit hole more than enough to kill deer). Why do I like this bullet? Because I can hit a dime at a 100 yards shot after shot. In my opinion this bullet expands well.

I don't shoot a 223 but is there a 223 round that might be better for deer instead of the 55 gr VMax?

X2 for the umteenth time. Got no problem with the 22-250, but match the bullet to the game.

Again, you will have people tell you that they kill everything DRT with a slingshot filled with gumballs, but that doesn't mean it's the best choice.

We could go to a bar and go home with a obese ugly girl. Just because we can, does not necessarily mean it's right, a good idea, or the best option.

The v-max is a great bullet choice and so is the .223 and 22-250. They are both in the safe thru deer season.

Those things are great for deer, hogs and varmints. And yes they are very accurate. I killed a couple of hogs with those and they dropped under the feeder. I also shot a doe with one in the vital area. She only ran 25 yards and dropped, just like any other round. I neck shot a doe a couple of weeks ago too. Just remember, shot placement is everything. If you are not confident, don't use these. I use a .220 swift with a Leupold Vari-X III. Its dead on. Also, DO NOT use the V-Max Moly coated. They have no brass jacket. They are for prairie dogs and small game only. There is no exit wound with these as they turn into small shrapnel upon impact of a hard target.

I made the mistake of shooting a doe in the head. It dropped her in her tracks but the head had no visible sign of ever being hit.
I expected some kind of exit hole or blown up head. There was none of the above, just a dead doe. So yes it will kill a deer with proper shot placement but for me I will be hunting deer with a bullet properly equipped for deer.

Isn't the best way to save face to keep the lower part shut?

i killed two deer this year plus a javalina with v-maxes.

i've killed 3 does, all neck shots, and all looked like murder scenes from friday the 13th. the javalina was taken at around 200 or so yards, ear shot, no exit but DRT.

we killed a doe with a heart shot at around 160 yards, pushing it imo, but the doe ran 80 yards, a blood trail that was followable.....no exit but the bullet made a mess of the insides, but i would't wanna do it again unless i had too.

.22-250 at 3700 fps.

keep the shots under 125 yards, the crosshairs on the neck and you'll be fine

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Ok,here we go again, the small bullet at the expense of the animal.About 40 yrs.ago I killed a doe with .22 LRHP and it went about 20 yds.Does this make the .22 a deer rifle? Hardly.Shoot these small calibers {good bullets or not} and you will eventually lose an animal from bullet fragmentation or precise but not PERFECT placement. It will happen and then a wounded/suffering animal.A good buddy shoots a .220 with soft points.I told him several years ago he was going to lose something and this year he did-a nice hog. No,it wasn't a head shot(shoulder)but something on the order of .243-'06 might have produced a better outcome. They found it 2 weeks later. But do want you want.
