I have a Remington 700 in 270 win. I got for Christmas. I have been shooting Remington corelock but I am not fully satisfied with there performance on paper( I was getting about two inch groups). What are some brands I should look into?

I shoot the Winchester 130gr Super X power points in two different guns and they are superbly accurate in each! Are you shooting 150gr?

Well heck, are you sure the scope and all bases are snug? I don't hear about too many rifles shooting groups that big now a days. Are you getting consistent groups or all over the place?

I have a .270 and love the 140gr accubonds, I load my own but Federal premium loads them for you.
If your trying to save money Hornady loads a 140gr interlock

The most accurate factory loads I have ever shot in MY 270, was the 130grain Federal Fusions. They are also the cheapest loads I have ever shot. Might be worth giving them a try. Every rifle is different, so after you make sure the barrel is not fouled and everything is tight, pick up 2 or 3 boxes of different loads and see which one performs the best in YOUR rifle.

I like Barnes TTSX, but had really nice groups with the Federal Fusions also.

what fowlplayer said - try several different and see which one your gun likes best. i know it costs more that way, but worth it in the end.

It's amazing to me to hear about people having issues with rem core-lokt.. I use them in 223, 270, 7mag, 243 and haven't had one issue??? It's also really hard for me to believe you are getting 2" groups.. My daughters 223 rossi will cut holes at 100yrds and the rest of mine are holding an inch or less at a hundred and all of this is done with core-lokt..

They shot great for me too.
Sometimes I wonder how peopel shoot off of the bench as well, I see people all the time shooting off of a bipod with no rear bag or suport at all, getting 5 and 6 in groups, learn to set the gun up on bags to shoot for groups at the range.
I have had good luck accuracy wise with
Rem corlocks Rem balistic tips Rem Bronze points(real hard to find and not worth it) winchester power points or whatever they call them Fed premium nosler partitions Federal blue box but dont remember what bullet
I cant say that I have had bad luck with anything that I have shot through mine I guess with the exception of 150 grain original X-bullit.

Corelocts would not group well with my rifle no matter what grain or style. Neither did Federal Premiums. However, 140 grain Hornady Customs group less than an inch.

RedDirt700: Please don't take this wrong, but sometimes a new rifle just has to get broken in and the shooter has to get comfortable with it. Accuracy may come with a little more time.

I've got a .270 SPS SS that I shoot core-lokts out of. I've never had a problem with the round and, for the price, I doubt I'll ever replace them with another round.
It did take me a box and a half to feel fully comfortable with the rifle and the caliber.

if you're looking off the shelf try the hornady stuff,or federal gold box premium loads, a couple of my guns have done pretty good with it, or talk to one of these guys that reload around here and see what they would load up a hundred bullets for your gun for.. find someone who will take the time setup for your specific rifle and you won't be disappointed. (off the shelf 1-1.5 inch is about right, handload to your rifle and submoa is the expectation)
In God I trust.. all others are suspect. ;))

thank you for all your thoughts.
i have a new question: Is it possible for a rifle to get used to a brand or style of round? the rifle i was given belonged to my father in law as a back up hunting gun. He said he would have it sighted in once in a while and put it up. Only about twenty rounds where shot through it befor me. He used to shoot ballistic tips, rem. or win. brands only. Could this have anything to do with why im not happy with core-loke?

Could this have anything to do with why im not happy with core-loke? I shoot ballistics out my 30-06 now. I have shot well with Rem ammo in the past. I switched to ballistic tips recently and have not been happy with how the gun shoots them. I have tried three different gains of bullets. I really can't get the groupings I like out of the gun. I take 3-4 guns to the range when I go so I wont heat the barrel up. First couple shot were good but then next couple shots were not consistent. I plan on trying Corelock Next. When I shoot corelok out the .243 and .223 I have no issues with the groupings. If a rifle shoots well with a certain ammo use it. My 30-30 and .35 and .356 do great with Winchester ammo. Other ammo not so well. Did you clean the gun? How's the barrel?

O.K buddy, I am assuming you might be a new hunter/shooter so here are some things to check out and pay attention to, please do not get offended as I am only trying to help! I assumed this was a brand new rifle but it's not so here are some possibilities for you: #1. Rifles of older years weren't made with the same kind of techniques of today's barrel makers so it possible that this rifle is just inherently going to be inaccurate. But that being said a 2" moa gun is plenty accurate if you take shoulder shots, not good for neck shots though! #2. Most rifles will like a certain brand or bullet grain, but they will not like every brand/grain. If you really want accurate then your gonna have to bite the bullet and drop some serious $$$ on ammo to see what it likes. #3 Shooting for groups will only work if you have some sort of lead sled or other rifle rest. A bag of corn, coat, etc. will not give you your best groups, it is sooo easy to wiggle a little bit if shooting @ 100yds and you don't even realize you did. It mostly happens because most triggers are set so high that when you pull/squeeze it you twitch, heck you might even flinch a little (I do). #4 The barrel might need to be free floated. #5 Are your groups consistent or are they all over the place, if all over the place then the scope or most likely the mounts are loose. #6 As mentioned in the post above, never, ever shoot for groups once the barrel gets hot, let if cool completely.

grout scout is right, but on the other hand some of the older remington 700s were some of the best rifles ever made.. i don't have a single rifle that shoots corlok's under 1.5" and 2" is more like it.. i use it to make brass for my reloads when in a pinch.. another thing i would try if you just wanna stay w/ the coreloks is maybe the higher and lower grain offerings, if still unhappy either reload, try hornady, or spend the money and pick up some federal premium loads.. or you can pm me and i will talk to you about settin up a load for your rifle.. another thing to remember is with a sporter rifle you may only get two tight shots before your rifle is warm enough to start opening up.. so to shoot a four shot group you may have to shoot 2,, drink 1.5of your choice,, shoot two more... if your groups are 2" then what you do is shoot 4 shots, measure, then adjust scope to center the group over the bullseye, repeating til happiness occurs.
In God I trust.. all others are suspect. ;))
