I have a Remington 721 (30-06) that shoots really well. I have decided to do a little work on it but have a few questions. First, I want to replace the stock with something that has a kick pad and a thumbhole. I found one that I like, but I am a little concerned that the rifle may not shoot as well with the new stock. I don't know anything about floating and bedding. How easy is it to drop an action and barrel into a new stock--and should I expect less accuracy?

Here is the stock I am looking at:

You'll have to do some fitting if you use a 700 stock for the 721, it wont be a drop in deal.

If the stock is fitted properly accuracy should be the same maybe better.

I don't think it will effect the accuracy of the gun if the stock is put on right.

I believe the 721 has a lug in the barrel that a 700 does not have. The stock will probably have to have a groove put in it for the lug. It is probably something could do pretty easily with a Dremel Tool.

My brother also has an old 721 that is a great shooter. His had a custom stock on it when he bought it. He later replaced it with an original 721 stock.

pay the extra for a stock with an aluminum bedding block,, i can really tell the diff in out of box accuracy (no bedding rq'd) and it's a 3 screw installation, really quite easy.. good luck
