We have a small pond on our lease (2 1/2 acres) that can hold TONS of ducks. But if there is no wind we do not kill any ducks - I mean NOTHING! We have tried small spreads, jerk strings, and pulser-butts and still if the wind is calm we cannot get them to come into the pond!

What do you guys do when there is no wind on small water? What kind of spreads and motion decoys do you use? Or, is that just the breaks and we need to abandon the lease when it is calm?

If it's a small pond try it without any decoys at all.

The problem with no decoys is that the pond is big enough that there is plenty of space for the birds to land out of range.

Maybe put the decoys where you don't want the ducks to land

we hunt a 30 acre tank and thers some mornings that its like a mirror. We just put our "confidence decoys" out. Most of them wont commit, but makes for them to circle in range and get some pass shooting in.

I would use 4 or 5 full bodies on the bank and 2 or 3 floaters on a jerk cord. That should do it.

A reason the ducks may be on your small pond is to get out of the wind. If this is the case then there is not much you can do except anticipate in advance when the wind will blow and hunt those days.
