I went to try to find some parts to have a buddy custom load for my remington 30-06 but all i could find were 30 caliber (.308)relaods. I got the .308 reloads in nosler partition 150 grain will these work for my 30-06 even though the box says .308 not 30-06 ? i was at bass pro shop

im new to the reload stuff looks fun though

Yes those are the right ones...308 is the bullet diameter

Welcome to the Reloading world of what works best in my opinion! You just need some experience to have that Personal Opinion!!!

I find Reloading Solutions to be the most fun part of the shooting experience and it enables me to shoot more "cheaply", shoot more often, shoot non factory available caliber/bullet combinations and even shoot more accurately than any factory ammo I can buy at any price.

However the statement "No where is Knowledge King More Important" is more true than in Reloading than anything else that comes easily to mind.

And... "You or Your Buddy who reloads for you's lack of knowledge in Reloading correctly can get you killed or maimed" is also a true statement.

So the easiest 1st answer is to buy a major bullet brand Reloading Manual and thouroughly read the "how to" portion, then look at the specific caliber and intended bullet use tables AND select the appropriate bullet to buy for your desired usage.

OBTW the Nosler .308 diameter 150 gr bullet series has several excellent and poor choices for a "hunting" bullet for a 30-06 deer rifle....and your purchase of .308 diameter 150 gr Partition's is potentially an excellent one ...but several other potentially better deer hunting choices are available from Nosler and other sources as well at mebbe cheaper prices depending on where & what you hunt and what kind of bullet performance you are looking for.

In my most current Nosler #6 manual, for a 30-06, I count 17 .308 diameter hunting bullets and 2 competition target bullets available...including 4 different hunting bullet choices in 150 gr'ers. *** and this does not count the new mono metal series bullets.

FYI All 30 caliber rifle cartridges - except a 30-30WCF - use .308 diameter bullets to be loaded into a specific caliber's empty hull. 30-30WCF's use a .307 diameter bullet.

Again, 1st & BEST answer to your OP is to go buy a brand name bullet company's Reloading Manual and read it thouroughly.

After Reloading mostly North American game rifle ammo since 1969 I still primarily use Nosler, Hornady & Speer manuals plus some other loading info from other foriegn & domestic sources, and load multiple calibers, using multiple bullet weights and styles within each caliber for various different fuctions or animals, currently in a spread of 4 WTail deer/Elk/Grizz/Cape Buffalo capable bolt action rifle calibers. I have in the past had sometimes as many as 8-10 different BA rifle game calibers I owned on the reloading bench at the same time...and Reloading is the only way I could afford to do that.
Have fun!
Ron

At work now but the specs I remember have the 30-30 with a 308 diameter bullet and that is what is speced in SAAMI and other pages http://www.leverguns.com/dimensions/images/3030wcf.jpg http://www.saami.org

Rest of the post is spot-on

The 30-30 uses the same .308 diameter bullets as do the rest of the 30 caliber rounds, 300 Savage/.308 Win./30-06/300 H&H/300 Win Mag or Short Mag./300 Weatherby or Ultra-Mag/30-378 Weatherby, etc., etc.

The 150gr .308 partition will work for loading in your 30-06 and is a great choice

Answer to your question is this

30-30, 308, 300win, 30-06&, 300wby , 30-378wby....ALL USE A .308 diameter bullet the only difference is that the 30-30 requires a blunt or round nose bullet because it has a tubular magazine in most rifles

When the entire spectrum of .308" bullets is considered, there is a wide range of impact velocities for which they are designed. That is another variable to be taken into account when selecting a bullet. There's more to it than just getting the right diameter (or caliber).

thank you all so much for the info, this is great!
I picked the partitions bc I dont like the BT bullets as my friend used to shoot the winchester silvertips bt and every deer would have a huge exit wound tearing up the meat often times. When i say huge i mean like sometimes a 6-8 inch gaping hole! He switched to just good old corelockts now all is fine. I used to shoot partition golds by winchester i think and dang they were a good accurate over the counter round but i cant seem to find them anymore so well try these noslers

I love nosler partitions, I dont think you could have made a better choice.

I dont know how much you know about or you friend knows about reloading, but like willey, I will stress getting a loading manual and beeing very careful!

Best of luck, have fun and be safe

Obviously I stand corrected on the 30-30 using a .307 diameter bullet...wonder where THAT brain fart came from?

I have not ever loaded any 30-30 stuff but in the early '70's owned a Pre 64 Winnie and a 308 I was loading for at the same time, and seem to remember being told I'd need to only shoot .307 stuff in the lever gun by the shop I learned all my basic info from when I started out and took EVERYTHING they said as gospel...and shows to go you TO DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH !!!

It is amazing what we take for gospel sometimes. Good advice to all do your own resrearch. This forum is a good source of information and a wealth of experience to draw from. I doubt anyone here would ever intentionally steer anyone wrong and there would be someone raisng the flag if advise is questionable. That is part of what I like about this place.
