Im going on a hog hunt in march. I'll be using my 7mm rem mag. Was wondering what a good size bullet would be? I heard that a 150 gr bullet is not enough an that it should be at least 175. I dont know if its true. I know a 150 gr delivers more energy an velocity than 175.Any help would be great. Thanks

doesnt matter much just what ever your rifle shoots best, and when shooting hogs i dont spend the extra cash for premium bullets

Pretty much any 140gr and up in the 7mag will take care of your hogs. I use a 7mmSTW with 160 gr partitons for everything I shoot with it, hogs and deer to Elk. On close shots the lighter bullets of cup and core design (corelocks, powerpoints etc) might come apart but will still usually give enough pepetration for a clean kill.

That close with the kind of velocity the 7mag generates I would use one of the bonded bullets, Federal Fusion, Accubond, Nosler Partitions or one with barnes TSX.

i like the fusions. What do you think though? Do i need the heavier bullet or not? with fusions your choice is 150 or 175.

Either one with that bullet will work fine. The 150 will be a little flatter shooting and plenty for deer and hogs at longer range with a little less recoil and flatter trajectory

Bullet weight will be meaningless. At 50yds we kill hogs with 22LRs. With a 7Mag, shoot what is most accurate in your rifle. At 50yds a good old cheap corelokt would be hard to beat.

Absolutely. Remington also makes their "Managed Recoil" rounds using Corelokt bullets. They are fairly cheap and easy on the shoulder. Drops a hog deader than easy credit.

140 gr. Sierra BT. 68.5 gr of IMR 4831. Used this load for for over 30 years and it has never failed. Killed a couple of does with it this weekend. Bit of overkill for that but it will work for anything that walks. Mild recoil as well.
