which mud motor would you gurus suggest? i need something around 15-20 hp. its for a place with alot of thick milfoil, coontail, peppergrass, reeds, and plenty of stumps. for fishing as well as duck hunting.
i'd really like to find a used one, why are mud motors so freaking hard to find used?

PM Judd, he is the mud motor expert...
the thing about baiting is, even a rookie hunter could have a 170 bird season if they bait holes

I like these too. I'm looking for one for my 14 foot x 32 inch jon boat...... http://www.mudbuddy.com/Mini%20HD%20Lite.htmThese things are da' bomb...smaller but just as fast as some of the bigger units and a lot cheaper... http://copperheadmfg.com/joomla/

PM Judd, he is the mud motor expert... Ain't no expert, that is for sure. There are a lot of guys on this board much sharper than I am on one. Having said that I would lean toward the GT if I was going to fish with it too. The reverse would be more handy in a fishing environment...that coming from a guy who owns a PD too.

x3. its hard to beat the original surface drive. these guys have been in business the longest when it comes to surface drives. but those copperheads are pretty bad to the bone for their size. if i had a smaller rig i wouldnt hesitate to get one.
I have found that diversity adds balance to things. And thats why i shoot a diversity of animals. so i can bring balance to my freezer

I'm getting a Copperhead in the next month or so. It will push a 14 foot flatbottom 22-26 mph. And it's a lot cheaper than go-devil or mudbuddy

Gatortail was not the first in the business MM business.
GT,PD, mudbuddy and go-devil all make one awesome motor. they'll all get you in places an outboard could never take you, BUT they still do get stuck. this things are invincible. they all have their flaws too. basically it comes down to personal preference. do you want gear driven or belt driven? reverse or no reverse? Full power reverse is absolutely bad to the bone. my PD reverse has gotten me out of many and i mean many situations that the GT reverse wouldnt have. But, if i lived in an area without extremly low water and mud, and ran a lake or heavy vegetation environment, GT is the only way to go with that environment.
Also, ive never ran, or rode in those copperheads, but have heard extremly good reports from them, and like stated above, on a short, skinny hull, they will push atleast 20mph with a light load.
And you can check MudMotortalk.com for some for sale motors and boats. also those guys over there on that board know their business when it comes to MM.

I'm gunna say +1 on the Gator Tail because I've got one in my sights for 2011 or 2012 if I can swing it.
