I would like to hear what dog boots everyone likes the best. I have been running lewis for several years, but they failed me on a kansas hunt last week the prickly pear would go right thur them. I have never hunted around prickly pear but one other time, where I usually hunt we only have to deal with grass burrs. Well we found a quarter section in central kansas that had a least 5 covies that we found but had to give it up because of the BAD prickly pear. some were embedded over 1/2 inch in our dogs feet. Is there anyway to stop the prickly pear, I think I remember a thread about this a couple of years ago, but I'm not sure. So what kind of boots do you like?? GA DOG

Lewis boots, but if you do a search on dog boots you'll find several threads with lots of choices.

Yes, I buy the blaze orange duct tape, put the boots on with the velcro strap, then one wrap of duct tape to help hold the velcro down & keep it from hanging on something. I only put about a third of the width of the tape onto the dog. They have worked great for us. Just like anything else, some are gonna love em & some are gonna hate em. We ordered one set first to check em out, then ordered two more sets before we went hunting again.

I'm a little confused! I've never booted dogs for pear.
Quail hunting is like walking into, and out of a beautiful painting all day long. Gene Hill

What I have seen is when the grass or broomwood is thick and you have a lot of pear underneath, its hard to get dogs to roll with any speed if they arent booted. After they get hammered once, they start semi-tippy toeing around

Our old lease South of Sterling City had places that the pear almost grew along the ground, it was so thick in places, you had no choice but to walk through it yourself if you wanted to see your dog on point. The birds knew where to go, if you wanted your dog in with the birds and still be able to hunt 3-4 days, good boots were a necessity!!! For dogs & hunters!!! That area is some of the roughest I have seen for dogs (several kinds of cactus & sharp flint rock everywhere) & those boots did work pretty dang good. We saw some nasty cuts on dogs feet after one day of no boots out there.

I am using Lion Country's cheapest (they STILL aren't cheap) nylon boot...it's double ply on the bottom. I use them for grass burrs...they are horrible this year in places I haven't seen them at all before. And yes, I put duct tape over the single velcro strap. I've still managed to lose a couple of boots out of 3 sets, I now have 2 and a half.
