I see people charging $1000+ for a two day turkey hunt to take one bird and am just blown away.

Are they really worth that much to people for a overgrown chicken?

It's baffling to me too. After I shot one at a buddy's place and had to clean it, $1000 is about how much you'd have to pay me to shoot another one.

Glad to hear I am not the only one that doesn't get the fascination with them! I've even killed one with my bow and still didn't get much excitement out of it. I did enjoy eating it, but I would much rather spend my early spring scouting for next year's deer season.

we own our place and see turkeys all the time. I once had 57 turkeys in front of me at one time. It was quite impressive to see, but I've still never bothered to shoot one.

Heck, it baffles me why someone would pay that for a deer or axis, let alone the big trophy fees. For that kind of money, I'd rather just buy a steer. The experience of 5-star cooking, fancy hunting lodge, and seeing a lot of critters is worth something, but not that much.

Deer quality is not measured by antler size

Don't get me wrong, this isn't a cryfest for how expensive hunting is these days by me. I can see paying 1500-2000 for a 130 class buck, but not 1200 for a turkey no way.

I just noticed in the turkey section someone selling a Florida turkey hunt for 2 grand, and another grand for an additional bird. That is just insane in my book, just wanted to make sure I wasn't the only one.

Shot my first turkey this year, cheater way with an AR. I breasted and took the legs in less than 3 minutes.

Brined in 1 cup brown sugar, 1 cup Kosher salt per gallon water for eight hours. Smoked on mesquite with pecan.

BEST TURKEY I HAVE HAD IN MY LIFE!!!

I will be turkey hunting this year, but we have hundreds of them, and the deern lease is already paid for.

Different strokes for different folks. Why does one man use a $150 mossberg pump and another a $12,000 Krieghoff to shoot trap with?

I will be turkey hunting too this year, but on our deer lease. I have not seen any yet, or found any sign of them. But I have heard them multiple times in the same area at daylight so I know where to call in spring.

I dont see the big deal, if thats your thing then it makes sence to me. Ive spent that much on worse things. Im sure theres alot of folks here that spend that on one or two trips to the casino and get nothing. Is that crazy?

Best turkey hunt I have ever been on cost me 375 dollars. I was driving way too fast to my parents house. Took a curve and there was a flock of them in the road. Hit one and that sucker split my bumper. He flopped around for a good 5 minutes too even though his head was obliterated.

I understand what your saying, I was pretty hardcore into cars for a long time and spent retarded amounts of money on them. But still....a turkey.... LOL

X3 nothing can ruin a hunt faster than a flock of them noisy things...they can suck up corn as fast as hogs. I have killed one in my life and do not ever care to shoot another or see them around a feeder when I am hunting.

Yep that's WAAAAY too much for a turkey hunt. But it is cool to call one in that you can barely hear in the distance and he ends up 10 ft away looking for you!

You'd be suprised what yankees (New Yorkers) will pay to come down here and hunt. We had a year round deer lease, in about 1984, that we paid $3,000 for and some NYorkers paid $13,000 for the next pasture over and only leased it for 2 weeks.

texas heat.... 2 grand is on the upper end for any turkey hunt for sure. the outfitters in florida have kinda got the market cornered however for the osceola turkey....it is only found in south florida and is part of the holy grail for spring turkey hunters (the grand slam) that try to get one of each species of turkeys in the U.S.... as a rule, a florida turkey hunt will cost more than any of the others...... that said, it is more than I would and have paid for a florida turkey hunt and anyone seriously looking for a grand slam can find one a lot cheaper.

We have them all over the property and they kill my corn feeders. They taste like crap I think.
However, nothing like throwing in a reed and ripping a gobble when they are in the yard and watch em all get puffed up and start strutting. Prefer to watch em then eat em....
