I guess I gotta change my screen name to somthin different. Maybe SS_Cty_Htr. We lost our little 280 acre lease in Mills County to some high dollar Houston city hunters that was willing to pay way over the going price for a huntin lease. Well we hit a gold mine for sure. This place is in San Saba County, 1000 acres, has an 800 square foot cabin with electricity, Satellite TV, working toilet and kitchen, spring feed creek with 2 artesian wells and hasn’t been hunted in 2 years. The place has lots of deer, hogs and over run with turkey. The cabin sets on a creek with a swimin hole with a rope swing in a big live oak tree for swimin. The creek is fed from the artesian wells and has lilly pads and elephant ear plants growin wild in it. Absolutely a beautiful place. We have been looking long and hard for a place and got lucky I guess. We passed on several good places hoping to find the right place and we found it.

I have never hunted San Saba but have heard nothing but good things about it.

A few years ago when I hunted Lampassas I took my deer into Hamalton to have it processed and they had a 9 point with a 25" spread that was killed in San Saba. It was a free range deer and was killed in late December.

With all the rain this year, you should be in for some great hunting in that area.

Congratulations! Sounds like a great place.

When he was young, I told Dale Jr. that hunting and racing are a lot alike. Holding that steering wheel and holding that rifle both mean you better be responsible.

congratulations on your find..i know you are relieved just to find something...if you are like me , you are tired of camping in a cheezy 1972 camper and would love to upgrade to a nice little cabin next to a swimmin hole..now , take care of it and the land owner...maybe they will be respectable and honorable enough to return the favors by letting you make a long lease out of it...good for you guys

We plan on taking real good care of the place and the land owner. She, the land owner, is a Native American Indian and the land has been in the family for 4 generations. The place has a 50 acre area which is a hill, the highest point in the area, that is fenched off and is off limits to the hunters. In the lease agreement it is called the "Hogan" and it say's if we trespass across that fence we loose the hunting rights. I did some research and a Hogan is an 8 sided Indian dwelling. My guess is there is still a dwelling from her ancestors on top of that hill that they use for religous purposes. I feel very fortunate to have the oppertunity to hunt the place. We asked what happened to the previous hunters 2 years ago and all she said was they got kicked off. My guess is they crossed that fence and went where they weren't supposed to. Also in the lease it says not to kill a fox, armadillo or a racoon. That's fine with me as I was taught not to kill unless you planned on eating it, or it was a threat to your means of living or posed a danger of some sort. Also it has a rock quary on it and all the white stone that the State Capital in Austin was built with came off this place according to her. I think she called it "Virgin White Marble". A lot of good history on this place.

Sounds like a really great place for so many reasons.

Deer leases are not always just about the game that is there. The history and the geology of the place can be as memorable as the hunting.

Enjoy it and good luck
