Hey THFers, my brother and I are considering buying a place out near Rotan in Fisher Co. We are looking to make the place a hunting and recreation ranch for the family for years to come. Primarily, we hunt deer turkey and quail. Do any of you know what the hunting is like in that area? How about minerals in that area? It certainly is beautiful country. Thanks fellas.

I would say good deer hunting, but never hunted that county, but Stonewall north of you has big deer! Good luck!

I hunt SW Fisher county. Good deer, dove and turkey. Lots of varmints and way too many hogs. Until 2009 the quail hunting was fantastic. Now its abysmal. Hope it will rebound but I'm not overly optimistic. I still remember when the quail hunting in Central Texas was good, then it crashed in about 1992 and it still hasn't come back.
Silver spurs and gold tequila keep me hanging on. Pretty girls and old cantinas give me shelter from the storm.

WE hunted Kent for years back in the early 90s on the salt fork west of Jayton,You might see one Buck per year back then but more than likely it was a shooter, now there are deer all over that country,Quail are history however.I get invited every year as a guest on the Pitchfork(Dickens co.) hogs and doe only but the guys on the ranch kill some really nice deer each year.Like I said Quail are gonzo.
Life is too short, as is. Don't chance it. Don't text and drive.
