What is the best poor man deks for geese. I have been told trash bags but not to sure. I have alot of land to hunt just don't have the money for deks right now. If someone wants to bring deks I can supply a free place to hunt.

Rags and windsocks are your cheapest option if you want to get a start for the cheapest money.

back in the old days, they used newspapers. Just fluff them up and put a little dirt around the edges. I guarantee the snow geese haven't seen this method! I've killed more snow geese by old school decoy sets then any new sets. Secret is to hide yourself!!

Your really not suggesting newspapers with dirt on the outer edges will kill more geese than silosocks. I know they used to use old diapers, diamond shaped cardboard painted white, trash bags ect. That was then and it is not the same now.

Silosocks, they are great! Diapers, they kill, but have you ever cared a load of them out after rain? Been there done that. Snowgoose hunting have come a long way from Texas Rags. Man, they were a God send!! Light and sweet and they worked! Then a old boy named Bobby Hale decided to but them Texas Rags on sticks, that was the birth of Third Coast, and windsocks. Have you ever seen newspaper with a little weight on the edges dance? Looks like feeding snowgeese in a field. This is what the guides used back in the early days. Sounds stupid, but it worked. I remember the first goose guide trip I ever guided. It was with Brookshire Brothers shopping bags. They worked! Those snows have gotten smarter, the Silosocks, the way to go. But, if you can't afford a big spread, I guarantee those snowgeese have never seen old school goose hunting. All you ask from the snows is just a long look at the spread, then you call the shot. That long look, usually means they are in range of a nice kill. In the past, lots of guides killed over newspapers. Only problem, you got just one hunt out of them. Silosocks, they are great!!

I remember my dad would buy the plastic rolls of the stuff people put on tables when they have a big party and just need something on the table...anyway, we would stay up all night(which with your dad when you're young is alot of fun!) He would cut them in squares about 3 foot long/wide, then we would bring a corner to a corner, staple the bottom edge, then wrap one end at the bottom of a stick, and one at the top. that left a hole like a silosock for the wind to get in it. It's cheap, and if the wind blows hard, they can shred up rather easily. the plastic was really light tho so on those days when the wind didn't blow much, just a hint of a breeze would fill them up and they would stay up for a while(cuz the staples had it sealed up). use an old white bed sheet cut in squares and tie to a stake last a lot longer than buying from a store
