Would it be any easier if we could include meals and drinks with our mgt and doe hunts, for a minimal charge???? It seems like some of you guys coming from a distance might like this better. I am not looking at making a profit, just to feed everyone, where they don't have to mess with this trouble. Any thoughts please chime in. I don't have any problem doing all the cooking so all of you can hunt. Tell me what you think, or if bringing food and drinks is better for the group. I am open to ideas. Roy

Just my opinion, but we figure $25.00 a day per person for two meals daily. That may be higher than you are wanting to go, but you might start out at $10.00 a day per person for two meals, and see how it goes over and if you are covering expenses.

The thing we look at, and we are a lot closer to town than you are, is folks bringing enough ice and groceries, even with the ice box you have there at the lodge. By the time drinks are iced down and needing ice for the meat they get, it might be easier and cheaper on your hunters to pay the extra so they don't have to mess with hauling the extra stuff or with the cooking.

10 dollars a day.......................I don't think that will make for 2 good meals, IMO. 25 a day may be about right. I like to eat good, and I know these guys like to eat good also

That is the way Lora and I looked at it. Also, the fact that the hunters don't have to interupt their hunt to come in and cook, or in case they are out a little late trying to recover a wounded animal.

From experience there is no prettier sight in this world, then coming in sight of camp and it is all lit up and you know that supper is waiting on you.

Personnally, I think most folks are happy with the $25.00 per day per person, just to not have to deal with doing the cooking or hauling the supplies. JMO.

IMO, i think it would be easier if say meals, water, and soft drinks were included, but alcohol is byob. CHC has a point about coming into camp and knowing there is food waiting.

I know there are a few ol' boys on this forum that could drink $25 worth of booze in a single sitting and not blink and eye.

It's not skybusting, if you make the shot.

On our guided hunts, we will furnish beer. We will pick up hard liquor for our hunters when we go into town, but they have to pay for it when we get back to camp, or hand whoever is going in, the money up front.

As for the soft drinks, bottled water, juices, we supply those.

For folks that have been on a Guided/Outfitted hunt, where all the hunter has to do, is show up with their clothes and firearm/bow, it is the only way to go. JMO.

Our insurance doesn't allow us to purchase alcohol, whether the hunter buys it, and we can't include it in our hunts as part of the package. As far as food goes on our guided hunts all food is included. We don't do much if any wild game feed. Most hunters are kinda finicky about some game foods, so most of ours is domestic. We do on occasion feed deer vension, but that is about the extent of that. On the hunts that I run myself and are all inclusive, I provide all food and all drinks. These are the Javi and Turkey hunts. I don't think drinks are included in the guided deer hunts, then again I am going by whats on the web site.

Every one has things a little different. The main thing is trying to figure what the clients prefer and what they are willing to pay.

The reason we provide the meals on our semi-guided/self-guided hunts, is simply because we have fully guided hunters in camp at the same time.

It makes our job easier, if we keep everyone corraled at the same location at the same times.

Driving out 20,000 acres after dark trying to find folks is not fun! On 36,000, it would be a nightmare, especially since where your at is rougher than where we are.

At $25.00 per day per person for meals, with soft drinks/fruit juice/water provided, I think most folks will be okay with that. JMO.

I'd pay $25/day for meals and soft drinks, and I'm a notorious cheapskate.

Sir, these are my doe hunts and mgt hunts. The dove hunts come with meals, included.

Hey Roy,
I just got back from San Angelo. Tuesday and Wednesday the West Texas Deer Study Group had a meeting there. It was gear towards guiding and outfitting for a change. They had a guy get up and speak on the "culinary side of a deer lodge". He says that he can feed some out of this world meals on $12-$15 per hunter per day. Before this meeting and then talking with him, I was like you. I would have figured more along the lines onf $25-$30 per hunter per day.
BTW, I am sorry that I did not send you an email or PM regarding this meting. I had it on my mind, but then got busy and forgot.
Also, I really want to get together with you sometime in the near future to pick your brain about some things. Give me a call sometime soon.

Take care.
KS

Was there any of the talks given, such as the one you mentioned;

I would really like to see what his menus are.

Why not leave it an option ?? Bring your own or opt for the $25 a day.I would suggest a menu availabl for viewing with different entree options as well as serving times. Some folks eat earlier then others.
As for the price, I think $25 is more then fair. The hunter is not only paying for the meat and potatos (so-to-speak) but hes also paying for your time and effort not to mention your unique style of cooking.

Just my 1.5 cents

The only problem with that set up that I can see, is that in most camps, there is only one cooking area.

Everyone would have to be insync as to how long they would be using the facilities, and on cleaning things up for the next person that would be needing to use the equipment.

Just from experience, if everyone in a group is camping/staying in the same area/building, all of the cooking needs to be done at one time.

IMO, if it was going to be optional, it would have to be a group option, either all or none.

Problems arise on group hunts if a few or just a couple of people are doing things seperately from the group.
