Would like to hunt some bobcats we have seen around our place (and maybe some coyotes). In the country (20 acres), but have neighbors. Don't want to be shooting at all hours of the night if possible. Would a .22 of some kind work? Or what would be a good round, with the least amount of noise (if possible)?

Is it legal to shoot rifles on 20 acres?

Or more than 10 acres if you're in the city

If you're worried about the round going somewhere, a shotgun will work if you can get them close enough. other than that I'd say no rimfires for coyotes. .222,.223,.22-250 all good choices except .222 ammo is hard to find.

I have found 22 mag to be more than adequate for Yotes.

My 204 does a pretty good number on yotes it usually blows up inside and has no exit wound.

A 22 mag will work for close shots but a 223 would be just perfect.

The 22 hornet is a perfect round for what you are wanting. It has twice the punch of 22 mag twice the reach and does not make much more noice. The new hornady ammo drop yot in its tracks

x2 on the Hornet - perfect job for this round.

X3. Perfect balance between .22mag and .223.

Had a TC encore pistol in .22 hornet and loved it. Great round. More than capable of taking coyotes.

I live and hunt in an area where its almost impossible to do much shooting beyond about 150 yards and I just love the 17HRM. Its flat and fast and with the 17 grain hollow points it tears stuff up. In your situtation I don't know that I'd buy one for such limited use - if you're going to buy a gun get one that will work for other things as well - like a 223 or 243. Spend your money on the scope.

22-250 or .243

It's funner to drop them right there instead of having them run off then wonder if you got a good shot.
